Exchange functionals based on finite uniform electron gases

open access: yes, 2017
We show how one can construct \alert{a simple} exchange functional by extending the well-know local-density approximation (LDA) to finite uniform electron gases. This new generalized local-density approximation (GLDA) functional uses only two quantities:

Electrolyte Design Strategies for Static Shuttle‐Free and Long‐Life Aqueous Zinc‐Iodine Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically summarizes recent advances in electrolyte design for static aqueous Zn‐I2 batteries, highlighting solvation regulation and interfacial engineering strategies to control reaction kinetics, suppress iodine shuttling, enhance energy density, and stabilize multi‐electron iodine redox chemistry for durable, high‐performance energy

Hydrogen-rich supernovae beyond the neutrino-driven core-collapse paradigm [PDF]

open access: yesNature Astronomy, 2017
We present our study of OGLE-2014-SN-073, one of the brightest Type II SN ever discovered, with an unusually broad lightcurve combined with high ejecta velocities. From our hydrodynamical modelling we infer a remarkable ejecta mass of $60^{+42}_{-16}$~M$_\odot$, and a relatively high explosion energy of $12.4^{+13.0}_{-5.9} \times10^{51}$~erg.

The Use of Contact Heat Generators of the New Generation for Heat Production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We substantiated the need for searching for, and realization of, fundamentally new approaches, using more efficient physical, heat-mass-exchanging and aerodynamic processes, which will make it possible to improve energy effectiveness and ecological ...

Non-LTE, Relativistic Accretion Disk Fits to 3C~273 and the Origin of the Lyman Limit Spectral Break

open access: yes, 2001
We fit general relativistic, geometrically thin accretion disk models with non-LTE atmospheres to near simultaneous multiwavelength data of 3C~273, extending from the optical to the far ultraviolet.

Engineering Strategies for Stable and Long‐Life Alkaline Zinc‐Based Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Alkaline zinc‐based flow batteries face persistent challenges from unstable zinc deposition, including dendrite growth, passivation, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution, which severely limit cycling stability. Current research addresses these issues through coordinated electrode structuring, electrolyte regulation, and membrane design to control zinc ...

CXC chemokine ligand 12 protects pancreatic β-cells from necrosis through Akt kinase-mediated modulation of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 activity. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The diabetes prevention paradigm envisages the application of strategies that support the maintenance of appropriate β-cell numbers. Herein we show that overexpression of CXC chemokine ligand12 (CXCL12) considerably improves the viability of isolated rat

Discrete Scale Relativity

open access: yes, 2007
The possibility that global discrete dilation invariance is a fundamental symmetry principle of nature is explored. If the discrete self-similarity observed in nature is exact, then the Principle of General Covariance needs to be broadened in order to ...

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.
