Portable sensors for hydrogen analysis
Russian Journal of General Chemistry, 2007Presently available methods for the determination of hydrogen in the gas phase are analyzed. Various procedures for the detection of hydrogen both at pre-explosion and at very low (less than 50 ppm) concentrations by means of thermocatalytic, semiconductor, amperometric, and potentiometric electrochemical sensors are considered.

Palladium nanowire hydrogen sensor
Proceedings of IEEE Sensors 2003 (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37498), 2004Palladium nanowires, synthesized by template-nanomanufacturing techniques, has been studied for hydrogen gas sensing applications at room temperature. In this study parallel arrays of Pd nanowires were fabricated by electrodeposition from an aqueous plating solution onto an HOPG surface.

A new type of hydrogen sensor is reported in which an optical fiber is used as the sensing element. The fiber is coated with palladium which expands on exposure to hydrogen. This changes the effective optical path length of the fiber, which is detected by interferometric techniques.
