Titanium-capped carbon chains as promising new hydrogen storage media

open access: yes, 2010
The capacity of Ti-capped sp carbon atomic chains for use as hydrogen storage media is studied using first-principles density functional theory. The Ti atom is strongly attached at one end of the carbon chains via d-p hybridization, forming stable TiCn ...

Computational predictions of energy materials using density functional theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In the search for new functional materials, quantum mechanics is an exciting starting point. The fundamental laws that govern the behaviour of electrons have the possibility, at the other end of the scale, to predict the performance of a material for a ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Hot deformation constitutive modeling of 6111 aluminum alloy linking Z-parameter to the associated microstructural evolution and precipitation strengthening

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
This work investigates the hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of 6111 aluminum alloy (core layer in 4343/3003/6111/3003 brazed sheets) via thermal compression (300–500 °C, 0.01–10 s−1). A strain-compensated Arrhenius constitutive model

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Boronation of Biomass-Derived Materials for Hydrogen Storage

open access: yesCompounds, 2023
In spite of the widespread range of hydrogen applications as one of the greenest energy vectors, its transportation and storage still remain among the main concerns to be solved in order to definitively kickstart a rapid takeoff of a sustainable H2 ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Hydrogen storage in nickel doped MCM-41 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Hydrogen as an energy carrier is one of the best environmentally friendly alternatives to fossil fuel sources. The potential use of hydrogen results with increasing demand to hydrogen production and storage. Recent studies show that materials having high

Producing High Concentrations of Hydrogen in Palladium via Electrochemical Insertion from Aqueous and Solid Electrolytes

open access: yes, 2018
Metal hydrides are critical materials in numerous technologies including hydrogen storage, gas separation, and electrocatalysis. Here, using Pd-H as a model metal hydride, we perform electrochemical insertion studies of hydrogen via liquid and solid ...

An optical method to determine the thermodynamics of hydrogen absorption and desorption in metals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Hydrogenography, an optical high-throughput combinatorial technique to find hydrogen storage materials, has so far been applied only to materials undergoing a metal-to-semiconductor transition during hydrogenation.
