Dynamics of Large Hydrogenerators

1996
Based on experimental data, this paper shows that the mathematical models of large hydrogenerators, used to preview the dynamic behavior at the design phase or as a predictive maintenance tool at the operation phase, must include the effects of the stiffness and damping forces of the oil film in the guide bearings.

Thermographic evaluation of hydrogenerator losses

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
The calorimetric method has for a long time been applied for losses measurement and energy conversion efficiency determination in electrical machines. The number of temperature sensors necessary for its successful application in the field constitutes in one of the major drawbacks of the method.

Output Error Identification of Hydrogenerator Conduit Dynamics

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1989
Two output error model reference adaptive identifiers are considered for estimating the parameters in a reduced-order gate position to pressure model for the hydrogenerator. Gradient and sensitivity function identifiers are discussed for hydroelectric applications, and connections are made between their structural differences and relative performance ...

Step response of a governed hydrogenerator

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1978
Stable control of the frequency in an electrical power system is essential to ensure continuity of supply. It is determined by the combined effect of the speed governors fitted to the generating sets throughout the system. The power output response of a steam-driven set to sudden loss in generating capacity is initially fast, but, after a few seconds ...

Maximum-Slew-Rate Control for Hydrogenerators

Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 1987
Traditionally, speed control of hydrogenerators has been implemented by analog proportional-plus-integral control of speed error. With digital controllers, nonlinear, adaptive control strategies may be implemented to achieve improved systems response. This paper develops a control scheme which responds to perturbations by moving wicket gates at their ...

Report of dielectric tests on a large hydrogenerator

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Part I: Communication and Electronics, 1956
THE OBJECT of the tests was to gather information regarding the characteristics of the insulation of a large generator winding. The tests also provided an opportunity to evaluate new test equipment and test methods. In particular, it was desired to evalute certain factors which may influence the results of various dielectric tests.

Global sensitivity analysis applied to an hydrogenerator

2016 IEEE Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation (CEFC), 2016
In this communication, a methodology based on a stochastic approach is proposed in order to characterize the effect of imperfections on the dimensions of a rotating electrical machine on on the time evolution of the signal of magnetic flux sensors. The methodology is based on an approximation of sparse polynomial chaos basis and Sobol indices to carry ...

Parameters and losses of hydrogenerator damping systems

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1978
The paper shows the necessity for: more exact methods to calculate and measure the parameters and damping system losses of highly utilised hydrogenerators; a more exact method for measuring the damping rod currents, by means of Hall's generators, and for the design of a current measurer and the measuring circuit, and a new method to calculate losses in

Determination of the Leakege Parameters of Synchronous Hydrogenerators

2020 21st International Symposium on Electrical Apparatus & Technologies (SIELA), 2020
An application of FEM for studying the leakage of stator slots of synchronous hydrogenerators is presented. The approach presented takes into account the saturation of the stator teeth and the mutual influence of the current in adjacent stator slots.

Hydrogenerator Monitoring

2004
