Our ideas on the nature of the lesion, based on clinical and pathological study and a review of what is offered in the literature of the embryology, are presented. Evidence is given that the presenting symptoms may be due to either intestinal or urinary tract obstruction.

Hydrometrocolpos as a Simply Inherited Malformation
JAMA, 1964Two Amish sibships, each with two girls with hydrometrocolpos, have been identified. Since all four parents can be traced to one ancestral couple, it is suggested that the affected girls are homozygous for a gene which was carried by one member of that couple.
