Does Hydrophilicity of Carbon Particles Improve Their Ice Nucleation Ability?

open access: yesJournal of Physical Chemistry A, 2014
Carbonaceous particles account for 10% of the particulate matter in the atmosphere. Atmospheric oxidation and aging of soot modulates its ice nucleation ability.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL HYDROPHILIC POLYMERS

Journal of Macromolecular Science, Part A, 1999
Different types of multifunctional hydrophilic polymers were synthesized and characterized in view of their possible biomedical application. Several poly(amide)s and poly(ester-amide)s containing oligo(oxyethylene) segments and tartaric or succinic acid residues were prepared by activated polycondensation methods.

Hydrophilic interaction chromatography

Journal of Separation Science, 2006
AbstractSeparation of polar compounds on polar stationary phases with partly aqueous eluents is by no means a new separation mode in LC. The first HPLC applications were published more than 30 years ago, and were for a long time mostly confined to carbohydrate analysis. In the early 1990s new phases started to emerge, and the practice was given a name,

Hydrophilic polymer gel

Forensic Science, Medicine, and Pathology, 2013
While assessing Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained histological sections of a pulmonary vessel from a coronial autopsy a blue (basophilic) staining foreign material with an amorphous fine fibrillary/granular nature was noted (Figs. 1, 2). The material was non-refractile.

A novel hydrophilic crosslinker in preparation of hydrophilic sorbents

Reactive and Functional Polymers, 1997
A new highly hydrophilic crosslinking agent, 2,3-dihydroxybutane-1,4-diyl dimethacrylate (DHDM), was synthesized from 1,2: 3,4-diepoxybutane by the reaction with methacrylic acid. Highly hydrophilic spherical particles were prepared by suspension copolymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) with DHDM in an aqueous medium in the presence of ...

Hydrophobicity--hydrophilicity of staphylococci

Journal of Medical Microbiology, 1987
The hydrophobicity-hydrophilicity of various strains of Staphylococcus has been studied by a technique involving partitioning of the cells between aqueous and hydrocarbon phases. S. aureus was typically hydrophobic, and to a greater degree in stationary- than in exponential-phase cultures.
