Hydrophilic properties of aromatics

International Journal of Cosmetic Science, 1980
SynopsisThe study of the behaviour of perfume ingredients in emulsions involves several technological problems.Recently, the scientific and practical validity of the parameter known as ‘hydrophilic value’ Kd (according to Bonadeo) was recognised; it relates to the behaviour of fatty materials in emulsions. The purpose of this research was to verify the

Hydrophilicity of cavities in proteins

Proteins: Structure, Function, and Genetics, 1996
Water molecules inside cavities in proteins constitute integral parts of the structure. We have sought a quantitative measure of the hydrophilicity of the cavities by calculating energies and free energies of introducing a water molecule into these cavities.

Synthesis of a Hydrophilic Naphthalimidedioxime

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2013
Imidedioximes are formed in hydroxylamine-treated polyacrylonitrile adsorbents used in the extraction of uranium from seawater. Although known to be a good uranophile, the glutarimidedioxime model compound 1 is rapidly hydrolyzed under acidic conditions used to elute metals from the adsorbent.

HYDROPHILIC CONTACT LENSES

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1969
To the Editor. —Bausch and Lomb Inc., are soon to release their hydrophilic contact lens, known as SOFLENS, on the market. I have been working with these lenses for the last year and have been fitting them on selected patients since July 1968. As there is little information yet available on this new lens, which is very different from the conventional ...

Hydrophilized polyethylene catheters

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1976
AbstractComplications arising in the application of polyethylene catheters in surgery may be reduced by their surface hydrophilization. This study describes a combination of chemical transformation and coating with a hydrophilic gel. Modified catheters were tolerated well by the patients and in contrast with the original catheters, they did not lead to

Swelling of hydrophilic polymers. III

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1993
AbstractThe total volume change included gel and surrounded water with the swelling of five types of speherical cross‐linked dextran (Sephadex) that are either nonionic (G) or possess one of four different ionic groups in the same molecular skeleton: CM: sodium carboxymethyl, SP: sodium sulphopropyl, DEAE: diethylaminoethyl chloride, and QAE: diethyl ...

Hydrophilic Framework in Proteins?

Journal of Protein Chemistry, 2000
The spatial neighborhood composition of residues was determined in a 511-structure set by taking only side-chain atoms into account to generate a hydrophobicity scale. This scale is symmetrical and has been divided into seven functional groups. Hydrophobic (LIVFMCAWYG) and hydrophilic (PTHSQRNKED) residues obey an equipartition rule: not only are they ...

Hydrophilic Suppository Bases

Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1950
The utility and versatility as suppository base materials of polyoxyalkylene derivatives of sorbitan partial fatty acid esters are described. These nontoxic, nonirritant, nonionic surface-active materials are particularly adaptable to suppository base formulation.
