Deserts, Rivers, Pools, and Billabongs: Water Features of the Nitrogenase Proteins, and their Functions

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 21, November 8, 2025.
In the protein surrounding the active site of nitrogenase there is a large anhydrous desert, traversed by two watercourses necessary for the enzyme to convert N2 to NH3. Various pools exist, but their water seems to be stagnant. This review examines the occurrence and function of water inside the protein that contains the catalytic site of the enzyme ...

Nanoimprinting of Mesoporous Titania: Direct Patterning and Refractive Index Control in the Visible

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 27, September 23, 2025.
Nanoimprinted mesoporous TiO₂ (pTiO₂) films are demonstrated as high‐resolution optical materials with tunable porosity, refractive index, and mechanical response. Sub‐micron patterning of planar optics is shown alongside a refractive index contrast Δn ≈0.7.

Temperature Sensitive Pluronic F127‐Based Gels Incorporating Natural Therapeutic Agents

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 310, Issue 4, April 2025.
Pluronic F127‐based injectable gels are designed for therapeutic applications. The curcumin encapsulation efficiency and stability of formulations are investigated in aqueous environment and in acetic acid solutions. The viscoelasticity of gels, correlated with the network structure, is influenced by xanthan gum or acetic acid addition.

Unraveling the multiple facilitative effects of consumers on marine primary producers

open access: yesEcology, Volume 105, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract The loss of consumers threatens the integrity of ecological systems, but the mechanisms underlying the effects on communities and ecosystems remain difficult to predict. This is, in part, due to the complex roles that consumers play in those systems.

Nanobody‐based heavy chain antibodies and chimeric antibodies

open access: yesImmunological Reviews, Volume 328, Issue 1, Page 466-472, November 2024.
Summary Nanobodies are the products of an intriguing invention in the evolution of immunoglobulins. This invention can be traced back approximately 45 million years to the common ancestor of extant dromedaries, camels, llamas, and alpacas. Next to conventional heterotetrameric H2L2 antibodies, these camelids produce homodimeric nanobody‐based heavy ...

Compound heterozygous variants in RAB34 in a rare skeletal ciliopathy syndrome

open access: yesClinical Genetics, Volume 105, Issue 1, Page 87-91, January 2024.
Biallelic RAB34 variants cause syndromic phenotype with skeletal ciliopathy, cleft lip, palate, and polydactyly. Abstract Skeletal ciliopathies are a heterogenous group of congenital disorders characterized by multiple internal abnormalities, and distinct radiographic presentation.
