Antimicrobial Activity of Hydroxamic Acids

open access: yesChemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 1971
o-, m- and p-alkyloxybenzohydroxamic acids were synthesized and subjected to the examination for antibacterial and antifungal activity. All the hydroxamic acids tested were almost ineffective for pathogens examined of Enterobacteriaceae, but some of alkyloxybenzo- and fatty acyl-hydroxamic acid were found to be as highly effective for pathogenic fungi ...

Cinnamic‐Hydroxamic‐Acid Derivatives Exhibit Antibiotic, Anti‐Biofilm, and Supercoiling Relaxation Properties by Targeting Bacterial Nucleoid‐Associated Protein HU

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 13, 3 March 2026.
Cinnamic‐hydroxamic‐acid derivatives (CHADs) are identified as novel inhibitors of the bacterial nucleoid‐associated protein HU, exhibiting potent antibacterial, anti‐biofilm (both inhibition and eradication), and DNA relaxation (anti‐supercoiling) activities. Moreover, CHADs demonstrate strong synergistic effects with multiple antibiotics.

Extract from Maize (Zea mays L.): Antibacterial Activity of DIMBOA and Its Derivatives against Ralstonia solanacearum

open access: yesMolecules, 2016
Many cereals accumulate hydroxamic acids involved in defense of plant against various fungi, bacteria, and insects. 2,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-1,4-benzoxazine-3-one, commonly known as DIMBOA, is one of the principal cyclic hydroxamic acids in aqueous ...

Probing Adamantane Arylhydroxamic Acids against Trypanosoma brucei and Trypanosoma cruzi

open access: yesMolbank, 2022
In this work, we present the synthesis and the anti-trypanosomal activity of the 2-(4-(adamant-1-yl)phenyl)-N-hydroxyarylamides, 1a,b and the 2-(4-(adamant-1-yl)phenoxy)-N-hydroxyacetamide, 1c.

Well diffusion method for evaluation of antibacterial activity of copper phenyl fatty hydroxamate synthesized from canola and palm kernel oils. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Hydroxamic acids and their derivatives have low toxicities and show wide range of biological activities. Copper complexes of phenyl fatty hydroxamic acids (Cu-PFHs) were prepared in a biphasic organic / aqueous medium from phenyl fatty hydroxamic acids (

A computational study of the interaction of organic surfactants with goethite α-FeO(OH) surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We have studied the adsorption of three organic molecules onto different surfaces of goethite α−FeO(OH) using atomistic simulation techniques. New interatomic potentials for the interaction between goethite and the organic molecules were developed.

Cinnamic‐Hydroxamic‐Acid Derivatives Exhibit Antibiotic, Anti‐Biofilm, and Supercoiling Relaxation Properties by Targeting Bacterial Nucleoid‐Associated Protein HU (Adv. Sci. 13/2026)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 13, 3 March 2026.
Cinnamic‐Hydroxamic‐Acid Derivatives Cinnamic‐hydroxamic‐acid derivatives (CHADs) are newly identified inhibitors of the bacterial nucleoid‐associated protein HU. They exhibit potent antibacterial, anti‐biofilm (both inhibition and eradication), and DNA relaxation activities, effectively reducing negative supercoiling.

What We Can Do in Infectious Keratitis, Except for Conventional Antimicrobial‐Based Therapies: Major Narrative Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Infectious keratitis (IK) is classified as a critical ophthalmic emergency, with the potential to result in vision‐impairing complications. The treatment approach involves the use of pharmacological antimicrobial agents in combination with surgical interventions.

An In Vitro and In Vivo Assessment of the Genotoxic Potential of Maizinol (UP165), a Zea mays Leaf Extract

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 3, Page 950-960, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Benzoxazinoids are secondary metabolites produced in monocotyledons and some dicotyledons from the Acanthaceae, Ranunculaceae, Scrophulariaceae, Plantaginaceae, and Lamiaceae families. Benzoxazinoids are commonly consumed in bread and cereal products that have been ingested for decades, which supports the safe use of benzoxazinoids as food ...
