Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Natural Bone‐Derived Ceramic Scaffolds Functionalized with Chitosan‐Gold, Chitosan‐Magnesium, and Chitosan‐Zinc for Enhanced Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the development of antibacterial ceramic scaffolds derived from natural bovine bone. The bones were processed through sequential boiling and hydrogen peroxide treatment to remove organic matter, producing porous, mineral‐rich scaffolds.

Immobilization of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase on hydroxyapatite and hydroxyapatite composites

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Babeș-Bolyai Chemia, 2021
A new and efficient immobilization method of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase was obtained using hydroxyapatite (HAP) and hydroxyapatite - carbon nanotube, gelatin and chitosan - composites (HAP-CNT, HAP-GEL and HAP-CS) as support material. HAP and HAP composites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), laser diffraction particle size ...

Compatibility of Methacrylate Based Resins Controls Interfacial Failure and Toughness in 3D‐Printed Multimaterial Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...

Feasibility of Nitrogen as a Carrier Gas for Inconel Cold Spray in Hydropower Application

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
N2, despite being nearly two orders of magnitude cheaper than He, is a feasible carrier gas for cold spray Inconel coatings in hydropower repair applications when higher gas temperature and pressure are used. Reducing powder size significantly improved cavitation resistance, while the addition of fine chromium carbide particles further enhanced erosion

Al3+ doped nano-hydroxyapatites and their sintering characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Pure and Al3+ doped nano-hydroxyapatites (HA) were synthesized by a precipitation method to investigate their densification and thermal stability after the air sintering at 1100 degrees C and 1300 degrees C. Second phases were formed after increasing the
