Recovery of aluminum from composite propellants [PDF]
Aluminum was recovered from solid rocket propellant containing a small amount of oxidizer by depolymerizing and dissolving propellant binders (containing functional or hydrolyzable groups in a solution of sodium methoxide) in an alcohol solvent ...

Elucidation of the dynamics for hot-spot initiation at nonuniform interfaces of highly shocked materials [PDF]
The fundamental processes in shock-induced instabilities of materials remain obscure, particularly for detonation of energetic materials. We simulated these processes at the atomic scale on a realistic model of a polymer-bonded explosive (3,695,375 atoms/

Polystyrene‐block‐poly(pentafluorophenyl methacrylate) (PS‐b‐PPFMA) is functionalized with primary amines to develop A‐block‐(B‐random‐C) block copolymers (BCPs). These BCPs exhibit high thermal stability and circumvent sources of undesired side reactions upon heating on account of its methacrylamide functionality.

ABSTRACT The balance between performance and safety of high explosives is at the heart of the current studies, and new ways of combining safety and performance have hence been elaborated. This study focuses on a mixture of 3‐nitro‐1,2,4‐triazol‐5‐one (NTO) and octogen (high melting explosive [HMX]).

Separation medium containing thermally exfoliated graphite oxide [PDF]
A separation medium, such as a chromatography filling or packing, containing a modified graphite oxide material, which is a thermally exfoliated graphite oxide with a surface area of from about 300 m.sup.2/g to 2600 m.sup.2/g, wherein the thermally ...

Trifluoromethylation of carbonyl groups in aromatic poly(ether ketone)s: formation of strongly polar yet surface-hydrophobic poly(arylenenecarbinol)s [PDF]
Fluoride-catalyzed reactions of trimethyl(trifluoromethyl)silane with a range of aromatic poly(ether ketone)s, both amorphous and semi-crystalline, proceed quantitatively in THF to yield soluble, amorphous polymers in which the carbon-silicon bond of ...

ABSTRACT Two novel composite propellant formulations have previously been produced from a binder consisting of the thermoplastic elastomer styrene‐ethylene/butylene‐styrene (SEBS) and a solid filler, either ammonium perchlorate (AP) or 1,3,5‐trinitro‐1,3,5‐triazinane (RDX).
