Living in the Hedge: Farmland Reptile Diversity Is Driven by Hedgerow Structural Complexity and Landscape Connectivity

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 28, Issue 6, Page 817-831, December 2025.
Agricultural intensification is responsible for biodiversity decline, but high‐quality field margins may mitigate these effects. We studied reptile species richness in a farming landscape in western France with a focus on hedgerows structure and density.

Reduced dietary intake induces body fluid hypotonicity via alterations in water and energy metabolism

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 603, Issue 22, Page 7345-7364, November 15, 2025.
Abstract figure legend Overnight reduced dietary intake (RED; small dinner with skipped breakfast), compared to a sufficient dietary condition (CON), induced body fluid hypotonicity during moderate exercise in a hot environment, despite equal total fluid intake. RED led to lower serum osmolality and reduced urinary sodium excretion, without differences

Studies on respiratory humidity,pt.1. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1961
A photo tube dew-point hygrometer is used for measuring humidity of respiratory gases, which are in varying conditions. It makes it possible to make an accurate, precise, continuous and automatic recording of the dew point of gas flows.

Ancient Microbiomes as Mirrored by DNA Extracted From Century‐Old Herbarium Plants and Associated Soil

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 7, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Numerous specimens stored in natural history collections have been involuntarily preserved together with their associated microbiomes. We propose exploiting century‐old soils occasionally found on the roots of herbarium plants to assess the diversity of ancient soil microbial communities originally associated with these plants.

QTL detection and genomic prediction for resistance to anthracnose in alfalfa (Medicago sativa)

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 18, Issue 3, September 2025.
Abstract Forage production, persistence, and associated ecosystem services provided by the major forage legume, alfalfa (Medicago sativa), may be affected by disease susceptibility. Resistance to anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum trifolii, has been described as an oligogenic trait, but the precise location of resistance genes on the alfalfa genome ...

Behavioral Settings are Crucial for Assessing Sensorimotor, Anxiety, and Social Changes in Aging and Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
We show that the shape of the open field arena significantly affects mouse responses to various behavioral tests, including anxiety, locomotion, social behavior, and tactile sensitivity, in both physiological aging and after spinal cord injury. Therefore, establishing standardized protocols is particularly crucial.
