Fatal Strongyloidiasis in Gibbons (Hylobates lar)
Veterinary Pathology, 1978A 6-year retrospective study of necropsy material from a colony of 200 gibbons showed strongyloidiasis to be the most frequent cause of death (24 cases). Clinical signs included diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, paralytic ileus and dyspnea. Lesions were most frequent in the gastrointestinal tract and lungs.

Malaysian Applied Biology
Hylobates agilis and Hylobates lar, members of the family Hylobatidae, are classified as endangered species in Malaysia due to threats such as population decline and habitat loss. The aim of this study was to sequence and characterize the mitochondrial genome of H. lar and H. agilis. This study reported the total length of mitogenome of H. agilis and H.

Hypertrichosis in a gibbon (Hylobates muelleri)
Journal of Medical Primatology, 1993A case of facial hypertrichosis in a museum specimen of a Bornean gibbon (Hylobates muelleri) is described. Apparently, hypertrichosis has not previously been reported to occur in nonhuman primates. Similar pathological conditions are known to occur in humans, but it is unknown whether any of the numerous forms of human hypertrichosis is equivalent to ...

Studies of the siamang (Hylobates syndactylus continentis) and the lar gibbon (Hylobates lar lar) where they co-occur in mainland Asia have demonstrated interspecific dietary segregation based on body size and have suggested that observed levels of frugivory represent metabolically based maxima for these species.
