Checklist of polypores (Agaricomycetes, Basidiomycota) reveals seventeen new records in Brazilian Atlantic Forest fragments at the Poços de Caldas Plateau, Minas Gerais [PDF]

open access: yesRodriguésia, 2022
This is the first survey of macrofungi carried out at the Poços de Caldas Plateau, Minas Gerais, Brazil, an area of high biological importance according to the Ministry of Environment.

How future climate and tree distribution changes shape the biodiversity of macrofungi across Europe

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 29, Issue 5, Page 666-682, May 2023., 2023
Abstract Aim Climate change is affecting biodiversity at an accelerating rate. Despite the importance of fungi in ecosystems in general, and in the global carbon and nitrogen cycle in particular, there is little research on the response of fungi to climate change compared with plants and animals.

Characterization of Schinopsis Haenkeana wood Decayed by Phellinus Chaquensis (Basidiomycota, Hymenochaetales) [PDF]

open access: bronzeIAWA Journal, 2012
Schinopsis haenkeana is a native tree to the Chaco Serrano Forests in Argentina. The white-rot fungus Phellinus chaquensis degrades its wood, causing a whiterot type of decay. The objective of this study was to investigate the structural alterations caused by P. chaquensis in S. hankeana decayed naturally and in vitro.

Structural and functional characterization of the cytotoxic protein ledodin, an atypical ribosome‐inactivating protein from shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes)

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
Abstract We have purified ledodin, a cytotoxic 22‐kDa protein from shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes) consisting of a 197 amino acid chain. Ledodin possessed N‐glycosylase activity on the sarcin‐ricin loop of mammalian 28S rRNA and inhibited protein synthesis. However, it was not active against insect, fungal, and bacterial ribosomes. In vitro and in

Biological Flora of Britain and Ireland: Viscum album

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 111, Issue 3, Page 701-739, March 2023., 2023
Mistletoe is a charismatic parasite of tree crowns with a long history of folklore and connections with Christmas celebrations. This, and its need for light, helps explain why it is most common in human‐made habitats across Europe. Once thought to benignly take just water and nutrients from its host it is now known to take carbon as well which can lead

A preliminary checklist of polypores of Peru, with notes on distribution in the Andes-Amazon region and new records for the country [PDF]

open access: yesMycosphere, 2012
A checklist of 33 polypore species (Hymenochaetales and Polyporales) from the Camanti-Marcapata Biological Corridor (CMBC) of Cusco, Peru, is provided with data about distribution in the Andes-Amazon region.

Evaluation of lake sedimentary ancient DNA metabarcoding to assess fungal biodiversity in Arctic paleoecosystems

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 4, Issue 5, Page 1150-1163, September 2022., 2022
We established a robust system to examine fungal diversity in lake sediment cores, including an updated set of primers, optimized according to the now much enlarged fungal reference databases. We demonstrate that lake sediment DNA is a reliable archive of ancient terrestrial fungal communities from records reaching well into the Late Pleistocene ...

Fungal spore transport by omnivorous mycophagous slug in temperate forest

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 2, February 2022., 2022
We examined whether slugs (Meghimatium fruhstorferi) can act as effective dispersers of spores of basidiomycetes. Our results suggest that slugs could carry spores of ectomycorrhizal, saprophytic, and wood‐decaying fungi to appropriate sites for these fungi to establish colonies.
