On the maximum value of the cosmic abundance of oxygen and the oxygen yield [PDF]

open access: yesMon.Not.Roy.Astron.Soc.376:353-360,2007, 2007
We search for the maximum oxygen abundance in spiral galaxies. Because this maximum value is expected to occur in the centers of the most luminous galaxies, we have constructed the luminosity - central metallicity diagram for spiral galaxies, based on a large compilation of existing data on oxygen abundances of HII regions in spiral galaxies.

A gaze-independent audiovisual brain-computer Interface for detecting awareness of patients with disorders of consciousness

open access: yesBMC Neurology, 2018
Background Currently, it is challenging to detect the awareness of patients who suffer disorders of consciousness (DOC). Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), which do not depend on the behavioral response of patients, may serve for detecting the awareness ...

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy: a possible choice for patients with resistant thin endometrium during frozen embryo transfer treatments

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology, 2023
Background Thin endometrium is considered suboptimal for embryo implantation, leading to compromised pregnancy rates without effective therapies. While some studies have reported promoted endometrial growth after a period of hyperbaric oxygen therapy ...

Bonding, Conductance and Magnetization of Oxygenated Au Nanowires [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 100, 046801 (2008), 2013
Spin-density-functional calculations of tip-suspended gold chains, with molecular oxygen, or dissociated oxygen atoms, incorporated in them, reveal structural transitions for varying lengths. The nanowires exhibit enhanced strength for both oxygen incorporation modes, and upon stretching tip atoms join the wire.

Prophylactic treatment of hyperbaric oxygen treatment mitigates inflammatory response via mitochondria transfer

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience & Therapeutics, 2019
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been widely used as postinjury treatment; however, we investigate its ability to mitigate potential damage as a preconditioning option.

Hyperbaric oxygen in the management of wound tissue necrosis after external dacrocystorhinostomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Hyperbaric oxygen is an adjunctive treatment for promoting wound healing and reducing infection. We present an unusual case of wound tissue necrosis occurring after external dacryocystorhinostomy (ExtDCR) that was subsequently treated with hyperbaric

Environmental risk factors and their footprints in vivo – a proposal for the classification of oxidative stress biomarkers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Environmental agents, including socioeconomic condition, and host factors can act as causal agents and risk factors in disease. We use biomarkers and sociomarkers to study causal factors, such as overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which ...

Hydrogen/nitrogen/oxygen defect complexes in silicon from computational searches [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 80, 144112 (2009), 2009
Point defect complexes in crystalline silicon composed of hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen atoms are studied within density-functional theory (DFT). Ab initio Random Structure Searching (AIRSS) is used to find low-energy defect structures. We find new lowest-energy structures for several defects: the triple-oxygen defect, {3O}, triple oxygen with a ...

Outcome of necrotizing fasciitis and Fournier's gangrene with and without hyperbaric oxygen therapy: a retrospective analysis over 10 years

open access: yesWorld Journal of Emergency Surgery, 2022
Background Necrotizing soft tissue infections (NSTI) require immediate radical debridement, broad-spectrum antibiotics and intensive care. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) may be performed adjunctively, but unequivocal evidence for its benefits is still ...

MEK1/2 Inhibition Synergistically Enhances the Preventive Effects of Normobaric Oxygen on Spinal Cord Injury in Decompression Sickness Rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
A previous study from our team found that hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) pretreatment attenuated decompression sickness (DCS) spinal cord injury by upregulating heat shock protein 32 (HSP32) via the ROS/p38 MAPK pathway.
