The limit of vanishing viscosity for doubly nonlinear parabolic equations
We show that solutions of the doubly nonlinear parabolic equation \begin{equation*} \frac{\partial b(u)}{\partial t} - \epsilon \operatorname{div}(a(\nabla u)) + \operatorname{div}(f(u)) = g \end{equation*} converge in the limit $\epsilon ...

Compact difference schemes for the multidimensional hyperbolic-parabolic equation
In this paper, we consider the stable compact difference schemes of 4 + 4 approximation order for the multidimensional hyperbolic-parabolic equation with constant coefficients. A priori estimates for the stability and convergence of the difference solution in strong mesh norms are obtained.

Nathaniel Culverwell's stoic theory of common notions
Abstract This article takes a closer look at the theory of knowledge developed by Nathaniel Culverwell in his 1652 Elegant and Learned Discourse of the Light of Nature. Based on Culverwell's endorsement of Edward Herbert of Cherbury against Plato and Aristotle, his critical reception of René Descartes, and his contributions to a controversy between ...

Well-posedness of a mixed type problem for the multidimensional hyperbolic-parabolic equation
We consider the modeling multidimensional hyperbolic-parabolic equation in the cylindrical area of Euclidean space and formulate the mixed problem with non-homogeneous boundary conditions for it.

Abstract figure legend We used an intersectional approach with recombinase‐expressing mice and adeno‐associated virus to map and modulate distinct nociceptive afferents in the vagal ganglia. TRPV1+P2X2+ neurons resided in the nodose ganglion (N), innervated the lungs (many projected into the alveoli) but not the trachea, and projected to the nucleus ...

ABSTRACT Recent results have shown that domain‐uniform stabilizability and detectability imply spatial exponential decay of perturbations in optimally controlled hyperbolic PDEs on one‐dimensional domains. This domain‐uniform stabilizability and detectability can be achieved only if the control domain is distributed over the whole spatial domain such ...

ABSTRACT Stochastic Galerkin methods offer unexplored potential for the numerical simulation of parabolic problems with random variables, in particular if they are combined with variational discretizations of the space and time variables. Due to the high dimensionality, the solution of the arising algebraic systems do not become feasible without ...

Abstract We investigate an initial‐boundary value problem of non‐isothermal nematic liquid crystal flows with temperature‐dependent viscosity in three‐dimensional bounded domains. Based on the time‐weighted energy estimates, we derive the existence of a unique global strong solution under some smallness condition.
