Craters and Lunar Lua (Pits/Skylights) in Mare Tranquillitatis and Marius Hills Reveal Variations in Protolith Properties

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract We investigated the regolith parent rock (“protolith”) properties of Mare Tranquillitatis and Marius Hills on the Moon, utilizing lunar pit craters (“lua”) to contextualize observations of rock abundance and crater degradation. We discovered a significant difference in underlying materials: the region around the Tranquillitatis lua is ...

Repellent Effects of Host Essential Oils and Limited Effects of Host Length on Tree‐Killing Bark Beetle Attacks

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 1, Page 37-44, January 2026.
This study demonstrated that the host essential oil significantly reduced Polygraphus proximus Blandford (Coleoptera: Scolytinae) attack density, but the density did not differ significantly among logs of various lengths of Abies sachalinensis. Our study suggests that host essential oils can perform as repellents against conifer‐infesting bark beetles.

Symmetric products and puncturing Campana‐special varieties

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 131, Issue 6, December 2025.
Abstract We give a counterexample to the Arithmetic Puncturing Conjecture and Geometric Puncturing Conjecture of Hassett–Tschinkel using symmetric powers of uniruled surfaces, and propose a corrected conjecture inspired by Campana's conjectures on special varieties.

BL46XU: an applied hard X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy beamline HAXPES II at SPring‐8

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, Volume 32, Issue 6, Page 1578-1585, November 2025.
The BL46XU beamline at SPring‐8 has been restructured for hard X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES), featuring two specialized HAXPES instruments and advanced X‐ray optics for high‐throughput and ambient‐pressure measurements. This article outlines the beamline design, performance and recent scientific achievements enabled by these upgrades. The ...

National Worry and the Psychological Value of Social Spending

open access: yesReview of Income and Wealth, Volume 71, Issue 4, November 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper studies “national worry.” It finds that in the West European nations the intensity of worry seems to be inversely linked to the level of social spending in a country. We also demonstrate that the proportion of citizens in Western Europe who report extreme‐worry levels has risen steadily over the last two decades.

The growth of Tate–Shafarevich groups of p$p$‐supersingular elliptic curves over anticyclotomic Zp${\mathbb {Z}}_p$‐extensions at inert primes

open access: yesMathematika, Volume 71, Issue 4, October 2025.
Abstract Let E$E$ be an elliptic curve defined over Q${\mathbb {Q}}$, and let K$K$ be an imaginary quadratic field. Consider an odd prime p$p$ at which E$E$ has good supersingular reduction with ap(E)=0$a_p(E)=0$ and which is inert in K$K$. Under the assumption that the signed Selmer groups are cotorsion modules over the corresponding Iwasawa algebra ...

Social disharmony, inauthenticity and patriarchy: an Ubuntu perspective on the practice of female genital mutilation

open access: yesDeveloping World Bioethics, Volume 25, Issue 3, Page 169-178, September 2025.
Abstract Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a universal issue which affects girls in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and South America, and immigrant communities in Western Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. FGM is a cultural practice in approximately 29 countries in Africa, affecting over 140 million girls.

Social capital and economic growth: A meta‐analysis

open access: yesJournal of Economic Surveys, Volume 39, Issue 4, Page 1395-1432, September 2025.
Abstract This research provides a comprehensive, quantitative synthesis of the empirical literature on social capital and economic growth. It assesses 957 estimates from 83 studies. While our preferred estimate of the overall mean effect is close to zero and statistically insignificant, the main finding of our analysis is the substantial degree of ...

Deformations of Anosov subgroups: Limit cones and growth indicators

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 112, Issue 3, September 2025.
Abstract Let G$G$ be a connected semisimple real algebraic group. We prove that limit cones vary continuously under deformations of Anosov subgroups of G$G$ under a certain convexity assumption, which turns out to be necessary. We apply this result to the notion of sharpness for the action of a discrete subgroup on a non‐Riemannian homogeneous space ...

Associations between sleep duration, insomnia, depression, anxiety and registry‐based school grades: A longitudinal study among high‐school students

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 4, August 2025.
Summary This study explored the prospective associations between sleep patterns, mental health and registry‐based school grades among older adolescents. In the spring of 2019, 1st year high‐school students in Western Norway were invited to a survey assessing habitual sleep duration, insomnia, depression and anxiety.
