Innovation and Information Acquisition Under Time Inconsistency and Uncertainty [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose to analyse the hyperbolic discounting preferences effect on the innovator's research investment decision. Investing in research allows him to acquire information, and then to reduce the uncertainty of the risks of his project.

Optimization and Assessment of Parabolic Trough Solar Power Plants in Arid Climates: A Case Study in Tunisia

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aims to model a solar power plant (SPP) utilizing parabolic trough collectors (PTC) to fulfill the electricity needs in an arid zone of the southern of Tunisia. The research integrates both experimental and numerical approaches. A prototype of a PTC was first constructed and experimentally tested under arid climates. Subsequently, a

Hyperbolic Discounting and Economic Policy [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Economic Perspectives, 2010
Economic policy-making often entails comparison between immediate costs and flows of future benefits or immediate benefits and series of future costs. Economics has a tool to handle such comparisons: the present- and future value calculations and the net present value rule.

Simulations of Photovoltaic Systems on Different Types of Ships in Sweden: Solar Energy Generation, Comparison to Energy Consumption, and Reduction of CO2 Emission

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Investigation of the potential of using solar cells on different types of ships, to see how it reduces energy consumption and emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2). From the reduction in fuel consumption, the fuel cost reduction was estimated, and an approximate payback time for the solar cell system was calculated.

Feasibility Study and Optimal Placement of Solar Power Plants Using Binary Genetic Algorithm

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study introduces an integrated optimization framework using a binary genetic algorithm (BGA) for optimal siting and sizing of two solar plants (865 and 739 kWp) in Karaj, Iran. The BGA outperformed conventional methods, achieving a 24.3% reduction in power losses and enhanced voltage stability.

Uniqueness in Infinitely Repeated Decision Problems [PDF]

open access: yes
Dynamic decision-making without commitment is usually modelled as a game between the current and future selves of the decision maker. It has been observed that if the time-horizon is infinite, then such games may have multiple subgame-perfect equilibrium

A kvázi- és általánosított hiperbolikus diszkontálás hosszú távon (Quasi- and Generalized Hyperbolic Discounting in Long Term) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Az intertemporális döntések fontos szerepet játszanak a közgazdasági modellezésben, és azt írják le, hogy milyen átváltást alkalmazunk két különböző időpont között.

The Dollar's Double Life: Not All Dollar Appreciations Are Born Equal for the Cross‐Currency Basis

open access: yesJournal of Futures Markets, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper revisits the relationship between the US dollar and cross‐currency basis (XCB) swap spreads. We show that the strength and direction of this relationship depend on the prevailing regime of the broad dollar. The evidence suggests that the well‐documented “dollar appreciates, basis widens” result holds primarily when the dollar is in ...
