ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

The geometry of the disk complex [PDF]
We give a distance estimate for the disk complex. We use the distance estimate to prove that the disk complex is Gromov hyperbolic. As another application of our techniques, we find an algorithm which computes the Hempel distance of a Heegaard splitting,

We consider a ‘contracting boundary’ of a proper geodesic metric space consisting of equivalence classes of geodesic rays that behave like geodesics in a hyperbolic space. We topologize this set via the Gromov product, in analogy to the topology of the ...

Adapted Metrics for Singular Hyperbolic Flows [PDF]
Singular and sectional hyperbolic sets are the objects of the extension of the classical Smale Hyperbolic Theory to flows having invariant sets with singularities accumulated by regular orbits within the set. It is by now well-known that (partially) hyperbolic sets admit adapted metrics.

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Hyp-UML: Hyperbolic Image Retrieval with Uncertainty-aware Metric Learning [PDF]
Metric learning plays a critical role in training image retrieval and classification. It is also a key algorithm in representation learning, e.g., for feature learning and its alignment in metric space.

Bohr’s inequality for analytic functions with hyperbolic range
In this paper, we use properties of the hyperbolic metric and the modular function to show that Bohr’s radius for covering maps onto hyperbolic domains is [Formula: see text] This includes almost all known classes of analytic functions.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Functional Inequalities for Metric-Preserving Functions with Respect to Intrinsic Metrics of Hyperbolic Type [PDF]
We obtain functional inequalities for functions which are metric-preserving with respect to one of the following intrinsic metrics in a canonical plane domain: hyperbolic metric or some restrictions of the triangular ratio metric, respectively, of a ...
