Chronic Hypergastrinemia: Causes and Consequences

Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 2007
The hormone gastrin plays 2 important roles in gastrointestinal physiology--1 as a major factor in meal-stimulated gastric acid secretion and the other as a trophic hormone for epithelial and enterochromaffin cells. These roles are exaggerated to the point of pathology under conditions of chronic hypergastrinemia as exemplified by the Zollinger-Ellison

Hypergastrinemia in Familial Multiple Endocrine Adenomatosis

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1974

Hypergastrinemia and colorectal carcinogenesis in the rat

Cancer Letters, 1985
Our objective was to determine whether chronic hypergastrinemia enhances chemical induction of rat colorectal cancers. Forty-five rats were randomized to sham operation or antral exclusion. Following a 2-week postoperative recovery period all rats were treated with 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (10 mg/kg) intraperitoneally for 20 weekly doses.

Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of hypergastrinemia

Wiener Klinische Wochenschrift, 2007
The most frequent conditions of hypergastrinemia in man are the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome with autonomous gastrin hypersecretion by the tumour cell and reactive hypergastrinemia in type A autoimmune chronic atrophic gastritis with achlorhydria causing unrestrained gastrin release from the gastrin-producing antral G-cells.

Hypergastrinemia in Hyperthyroidism

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1976
Fasting plasma gastrin levels measured by radioimmunoassay were found to be elevated in patients with hyperthyroidism. The intravenous injection of arginine caused an increase of plasma gastrin in hyperthyroid patients as in normal subjects. The elevated gastrin level in patients with hyperthyroidism was significantly lowered after the thyroid function

Hypergastrinemia Following Antral Gastrocystoplasty

Journal of Urology, 1986
Antral gastrocystoplasty has been previously described as an effective method of bladder augmentation or replacement. Six dogs underwent gastrocystoplasty. Two bladders were augmented utilizing the gastric fundus, one antral augmentation was performed, and three total bladder replacements were created utilizing the antrum.

Hypergastrinemia following gastrocystoplasty in rats

Urological Research, 1995
Gastrocystoplasty has been previously described as an effective method of bladder augmentation or replacement. Twenty-four female Wistar rats were divided into three groups of eight animals each: control (G1), partial gastrectomy with the gastric body (G2) and gastrocystoplasty with the gastric body (G3).
