Publicationes Mathematicae Debrecen, 1994See the reviews for the closely related papers of \textit{W. Chu} [Pure Math. Appl. 4, No. 4, 409-428 (1993; Zbl 0815.05008)] and [Forum Math. 7, No. 1, 117-129 (1995; Zbl 0815.05009)]. New proofs for the number of basic hypergeometric identities are given based on inverse pairs and on the embedding of identities into inverse pairs.
