Adverse Cardiovascular Risk Profile and Increased Diurnal Salivary Cortisol in Girls With Turner Syndrome: An Exploratory Study

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part C: Seminars in Medical Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Patients with Turner Syndrome (TS) and those exposed to high concentrations of glucocorticoids have a number of characteristics in common, including an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Pediatric TS patients underwent studies of salivary cortisol (SC) and cortisone (SCn), body composition, continuous glucose monitoring, vascular ...

Comparison of the effects of metformin, citral, Cymbopogon citratus extract and silver nanoparticles of Cymbopogon citratus extract on oxidative stress indices and Nrf2 levels in experimental type 2 diabetes in rats

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The experimental type 2 diabetes model in rats induced by streptozotocin and nicotinamide showed that silver nanoparticles synthesized from lemongrass extract modulate blood glucose, water and food intake, and enhance antioxidant enzyme synthesis and weight gains.

Neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte and monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte ratios as inflammatory markers in the assessment of glycemic status in diabetic patients of Asir region

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (MLR) were investigated as potential markers. A total of 3545 subjects were included in the analysis retrospectively. Adult men and women with impaired glucose metabolism were assessed. NLR and MLR may help assess inflammation in individuals with impaired glucose metabolism. Abstract

A logistic regression model for microalbuminuria prediction in overweight male population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Obesity promotes progression to microalbuminuria and increases the risk of chronic kidney disease. Current protocols of screening microalbuminuria are not recommended for the overweight or obese. Design and Methods: A cross-

Establishment of a novel alloxan‐induced rabbit model exhibiting unique diabetic retinal neuropathy features assessed via ERG + VEP

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Study workflow. Neuroretinal changes were observed in alloxan‐induced diabetic rabbits, while the retinal vasculature remained unaffected, indicating the successful establishment of a diabetic neuroretinal model. Abstract Background Diabetic retinal neuropathy (DRN) leads to significant visual impairment; however, no existing animal model fully ...

Polymorphisms of the _ENPP1_ gene are not associated with type 2 diabetes or obesity in the Chinese Han population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
*Objective:* Type 2 Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and with a major feature of insulin resistance. Genetic association studies have suggested that _ENPP1_ might play a potential role in susceptibility to ...
