Mach 4 Simulating Experiment of Pre-Cooled Turbojet Engine Using Liquid Hydrogen

open access: yesAerospace, 2022
This study investigated a pre-cooled turbojet engine for a Mach 5 class hypersonic transport aircraft. The engine was demonstrated under takeoff and Mach 2 flight conditions, and a Mach 5 propulsion wind tunnel test is planned.

Sliding Mode Control in Aerospace Applications: A Survey

open access: yesInternational Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sliding mode control (SMC) enjoys robustness to matched and unmatched (in the case of minimum phase input‐output dynamics) bounded perturbations, and finite time convergence. Second‐order and higher‐order sliding mode control systems (2‐SMC/HOSMC) retain all the advantages of sliding mode control, but in addition can be applied to systems of ...

Apparatus and method for generating large mass flow of high temperature air at hypersonic speeds [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
High temperature, high mass air flow and a high Reynolds number test air flow in the Mach number 8-10 regime of adequate test flow duration is attained by pressurizing a ceramic-lined storage tank with air to a pressure of about 100 to 200 atmospheres ...

Numerical investigation of strut-dual cavity flame holders for enhanced combustion performance in scramjet engines [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions
Scramjet engines hold significant promise for hypersonic propulsion, yet the complexities of supersonic combustion pose considerable challenges. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) offers a cost-effective approach to studying turbulent reactive flows in ...

The Unintended Consequences of German Deterrence

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Germany's evolving deterrence posture boils down to continued participation in NATO nuclear sharing and an ambitious conventional rearmament program. Due to its non‐nuclear status and a result of decades of underinvestment, Germany prioritizes modern conventional weapons.

Shock‐Assisted Flow Control System in Convergent‐Divergent Nozzle: A Numerical Study on Unconventional Protuberance With Different Geometry

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
A numerical investigation using 3D RANS simulations demonstrates significant effects of protuberance geometry—cubic, cylindrical, spherical, and conical—on shock‐induced thrust vectoring in supersonic nozzles. Cubic protuberances provide the maximum jet deflection (˜2°) with negligible thrust reduction.

Numerical simulation and performances evaluation of the pulse detonation engine

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
A pulse detonation engine (PDE) is a type of propulsion system that uses detonation waves to combust the fuel and oxidizer mixture. The engine is pulsed because the mixture must be renewed in the combustor between each detonation wave.

Radiative Forcing and Ozone Depletion of a Decade of Satellite Megaconstellation Missions

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Satellite megaconstellations (SMCs) are driving rapid increases in rocket launch and re‐entry rates, emitting pollutants throughout the atmosphere. The environmental impact of SMCs lacks characterization to determine the need for regulation. We utilize a global 3D emission inventory of recent (2020–2022) space activity that distinguishes SMC ...
