Analysis of free, unbound thyroid hormones by liquid chromatography‐tandem mass spectrometry: A mini‐review of the medical rationale and analytical methods

open access: yesAnalytical Science Advances, Volume 4, Issue 7-8, Page 244-254, August 2023., 2023
Abstract Measurement of hormones is important for the diagnosis and management of endocrine diseases. The thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) are among the most commonly measured hormones in clinical laboratories, and it is the concentration of free (not bound to proteins) thyroid hormones that is clinically most relevant.

Prospective evaluation of a telmisartan suppression test as a diagnostic tool for primary hyperaldosteronism in cats

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 37, Issue 4, Page 1348-1357, July/August 2023., 2023
Abstract Background In a previous study, telmisartan suppressed aldosterone secretion in healthy cats but not in cats with primary hyperaldosteronism (PHA). Hypotheses Telmisartan suppresses aldosterone secretion in middle‐aged healthy cat and cats with diseases that may result in secondary hyperaldosteronism, but not in those with PHA.

Total thyroidectomy in a patient awaiting heart transplant with amiodarone‐induced thyrotoxicosis: A case report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 11, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
Amiodarone‐induced thyrotoxicosis can impact negatively cardiac function. Total thyroidectomy is needed when medical therapy is not effective to control this thyrotoxicosis, leading to major clinical improvements. Abstract Thyroid function may have a severe impact in cardiac function.

Iodine Status in Pregnant Women Having Urinary Fluoride in Contaminated Areas: A Case Study of Phayao Province

open access: yesJournal of Environmental and Public Health, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Fluoride naturally occurs in the Earth’s crust and is widely dispersed in groundwater. The high consumption of fluoride can inhibit iodine metabolism in the human body, especially in the thyroid gland. This study assessed iodine knowledge, iodine consumption behavior, urinary iodine (UI), thyroid stimulating hormone (serum TSH), and free ...

A U‐shaped association between serum albumin with total triiodothyronine in adults

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 36, Issue 6, June 2022., 2022
This study found a positive relationship between ALB and TT3 among most adults. Notably, we found a U‐shaped association between ALB and serum TT3 in participants, especially in females (inflection point for serum albumin levels: 46 g/L), which may provide a reference for guiding treatment and screening in adults with thyroid dysfunction including ...

Thyroxine binding globulin excess detected by neonatal screening [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Pediatric Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2016
Inherited thyroxine binding globulin (TBG) disorder can be identified incidentally or through neonatal screening test. TBG excess is characterized by high levels of thyroxine (T4) but normal level of free T4 (fT4), while TBG deficiency presents with low ...
