Painless destructive thyroiditis in a patient with resistance to thyroid hormone: a case report

open access: yesThyroid Research, 2019
Background Resistance to thyroid hormone (RTH) usually features a syndrome of inappropriate secretion of thyroid-stimulating hormone (SITSH) without suppression of the typical high thyroid hormone levels.

Detection of Polyethylene Glycol Thyrotropin (TSH) Precipitable Percentage (Macro-TSH) in Patients with a History of Thyroid Cancer [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology and Metabolism, 2017
BackgroundOwing to its large molecular size, polyethylene glycol (PEG)-precipitable thyrotropin (TSH) can accumulate in the circulation, elevating TSH levels. PEG-precipitable TSH can be used to detect macro-TSH (mTSH) in serum.

Circulating Antibodies to T4 Causing Discordant Tests of Thyroid Function: A Case Report

open access: yesEndocrinology Research and Practice, 2014
The presence of elevated free thyroxine (fT4) hormone level with non-suppressed thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) level is called as “inappropriate secretion of TSH’’.

Trabecular bone deterioration in differentiated thyroid cancer: Impact of long‐term TSH suppressive therapy

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 9, Issue 16, Page 5746-5755, August 2020., 2020
There is a debate respect the effect of long‐term TSH suppression therapy in Thyroid Cancer. We have demonstrated according to the degree of suppression and duration (Group I, 5‐10 years; Group II, >10 years): TBS values were lower in Groups I (1.29 ± 0.12) and II (1.26 ± 0.13) compared with baseline values while decreases in L‐BMD and FN‐BMD were seen

The Differential Diagnosis of Discrepant Thyroid Function Tests: Insistent Pitfalls and Updated Flow-Chart Based on a Long-Standing Experience

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2020
Background: Discrepant thyroid function tests (TFTs) are typical of inappropriate secretion of TSH (IST), a rare entity encompassing TSH-secreting adenomas (TSHoma) and Resistance to Thyroid Hormone (RTHβ) due to THRB mutations.

Propranolol-induced hyperthyroxinemia.

open access: yesNorth Carolina medical journal, 1983
A patient on a regimen of 400 mg/day of propranolol hydrochloride was observed to have elevated thyroxine (T4) and free T4 levels with a normal thyrotropin response to protirelin. This led us to study the prevalence of hyperthyroxinemia in 14 consecutively treated patients with hypertension on daily doses of propranolol of 320 mg or more.

Familial dysalbuminemic hyperthyroxinemia confounding management of coexistent autoimmune thyroid disease

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism Case Reports, 2020
Familial dysalbuminemic hyperthyroxinemia (FDH) is a cause of discordant thyroid function tests (TFTs), due to interference in free T4 assays, caused by the mutant albumin.

An Unusual and Severe Thyrotoxicosis in a Twin Pregnancy: Fortune Favors the Brave

open access: yesCase Reports in Endocrinology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Graves’ disease (GD) and gestational transient thyrotoxicosis (GTT) are the most common causes of thyrotoxicosis during pregnancy, with prevalence ranging from 0.1% to 1% and from 1% to 3%, respectively. Hyperthyroidism during pregnancy can have severe consequences if not promptly recognized and treated.

PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF PERINATAL STRESS ON HYPOTHALAMIC-PITUITARY-ADRENAL (HPA) AXIS IN RAT PUPS WITH MODEL OF HYPERTHYROIDAL MOTHERS [PDF]

open access: yesAssiut Veterinary Medical Journal, 2019
Hyperthyroidism is common endocrine problem encountered in pregnancy. It is well known that hyperthyroidism induces an increase in the activity of hypothalamic- pituitary – adrenal (HPA) axis.
