Hypnotic Susceptibility: A Factor Analytical Perspective
This study sought to identify non-pathological personality dimensions related to hypnotic susceptibility. 53 males and 56 females were given the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire and the Harvard Group Scale of Hypnotic Susceptibility. One of the 5 varimax rotated factors was significantly related to hypnotic susceptibility.

Dreaming and Hypnotic Susceptibility: A Pilot Study
Previous experimental work has indicated that certain stable personality characteristics are reliably associated with differential susceptibility to hypnosis. It is suggested that people who are more susceptible will be characterized by an awareness of dreaming more frequently, vividly and creatively.

Hypnotic Susceptibility and Reported Religious Experience
The relationship between reported religious experience and hypnotic susceptibility was investigated in an initial sample of 96 Ss. Hypnotic depth and hypnotic susceptibility: A replicated finding
International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, 1980Abstract A sample of 398 Ss was tested in groups of from 8 to 20 people on the Harvard Group Scale of Hypnotic Susceptibility, Form A (HGSHS:A) of Shor and E. Orne (1962). Retrospective depth reports for each of the 12 HGSHS:A items were taken in order to extend Tart's findings (1970, 1972) on susceptibility and depth.

Alcohol increases hypnotic susceptibility
Consciousness and Cognition, 2013One approach to hypnosis suggests that for hypnotic experience to occur frontal lobe activity must be attenuated. For example, cold control theory posits that a lack of awareness of intentions is responsible for the experience of involuntariness and/or the subjective reality of hypnotic suggestions.

Eye-roll and hypnotic susceptibility
International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, 1974Abstract Is the ability to roll ones eyes upward and then close the eyelids without looking down a predictor of hypnotic susceptibility as Spiegel has suggested? This paper reports non-significant negative correlations between the eye-roll test and both the HGSHS:A and the SHSS:C.

Hypnotic Susceptibility and Mental Deficiency
International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, 1963Abstract In a review of the literature on the hypnotic susceptibility of normals and some diagnostic groups, it was observed that mental defectives were conspicuously absent. A discussion of some of the theoretical issues relevant to both the areas of hypnotic susceptibility and mental deficiency is followed by a description of a susceptibility ...

Dogmatism, Authority, and Hypnotic Susceptibility
American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, 1975Abstract This study explores the relationship between dogmatism and hypnotic susceptibility as a function of the impugned authority of the hypnotist. It was hypothesized that high dogmatic Ss would prove more susceptible than low dogmatic Ss when led to believe that the hypnotist was an authority in the field, but would be no more or less susceptible ...
