Dilated Cardiomyopathy Phenotype With Global (Four-Chamber) Involvement in a Cat: Echocardiographic, Pathological, Histopathological, and Immunohistochemical Findings. [PDF]

open access: yesCase Rep Vet Med
An 8‐year‐old castrated male Exotic Shorthair cat was referred due to the onset of abdominal effusion. Echocardiography revealed a dilated cardiomyopathy phenotype affecting both ventricles, associated with biatrial dilatation, left atrial dysfunction with spontaneous echocontrast, and right‐sided congestive heart failure.

Discovery of a novel pathway for an SLE-related disease complex in the canine breed Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The dog is an excellent model to study inherited complex diseases, due to its unique population history and haplotype structure. In this thesis, dogs from the breed Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever (NSDTR) have been used as a model for defining the ...

Psychogenic polydipsia in dogs – a review of pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Polyuria and polydipsia represent a common clinical presentation in dogs and may result from numerous disorders affecting different body systems. Detection of renal tubular transporter proteins in canine urinary extracellular vesicles using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
Abstract Urinary extracellular vesicles (UEVs) are membranous particles that carry renal tubular transporter proteins. Here, we evaluate whether selected renal tubular transporter proteins can be detected in UEVs isolated from small volume (1–5 mL) canine urine samples of healthy dogs and canine patients with elevated circulating parathyroid hormone ...

A mini‐review of chronic suppression of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis in animals with P‐glycoprotein deficiency

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, Volume 67, Issue 6, Page 487-491, June 2026.
This mini‐review describes the pathophysiology of the disrupted hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis in dogs, and probably cats, with the MDR1 (ABCB1) mutation, ABCB1‐1Δ in dogs and ABCB11930‐1931del TC in cats. Clinical consequences in affected animals are discussed and therapeutic interventions to consider are presented.

A Case of Congenital Hypothyroidism in Cats: Diagnostic Challenges and Therapeutic Outcomes

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
Congenital hypothyroidism in a 3‐year‐old Persian cat was diagnosed via low total thyroxine levels unresponsive to TSH stimulation, alongside clinical signs of dwarfism and renal failure. Levothyroxine therapy significantly improved renal function and activity within 1 week.

Machine Learning Model for an App‐Based Tool to Assist With the Diagnosis of Canine Atopic Dermatitis

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 37, Issue 2, Page 236-246, April 2026.
Canine atopic dermatitis (cAD) is a chronic condition requiring life‐long management. Accurate diagnosis can be challenging, with no reliable diagnostic test. This study aimed to generate a simple diagnostic model for cAD. This model is a relevant prototype for an app‐based tool to support general practitioners in the diagnosis of cAD alongside ...

Efficacy and Safety of DNV3 (a Lymphocyte‐activation Gene 3–blocking Antibody) Combined With Toripalimab and Chemotherapy in Advanced Melanoma: An Open‐label, Single‐arm Clinical Trial

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
This investigator‐initiated trial demonstrates that LAG‐3/PD‐1 dual blockade (DNV3 + toripalimab) combined with chemotherapy achieves a 44.4% overall response rate (ORR) in advanced melanoma, showing particular efficacy in anti‐PD‐(L)1‐resistant patients (42.9% ORR, 7.36‐month median PFS), treatment‐naïve mucosal melanoma (50.0% ORR), and those with ...

Recurrent haemorrhage, due to vitamin K‐dependent coagulopathy, as the primary presenting complaint in a dog with naturally occurring hypoadrenocorticism

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract A 5‐year‐old male neutered standard poodle, presented with recurrent gingival margin haemorrhage and associated prolongations in prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time, with repeatable demonstration of clinical (bleeding) and laboratory (prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time) resolution with, and relapse ...
