Serum Apelin‐13 and Galectin‐3 in COVID‐19: Associations With Routine Biochemical Parameters and Diagnostic Performance in a Case–Control Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
Serum Apelin‐13 and Galectin‐3 levels were measured by ELISA in COVID‐19–positive patients and controls and evaluated alongside routine biochemical parameters. COVID‐19 patients showed significant alterations in liver, renal, inflammatory, and metabolic markers.

Is Potential Malnutrition Associated with Increased Morbidity in Total Hip and Knee Joint Arthroplasty? A Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Orthopaedics
Introduction: Malnutrition is considered a risk factor for post-operative complications in total hip and knee arthroplasty, though prospective studies to investigate this assumption are lacking. The aims of this study were to prospectively analyze the 90-

Early prediction of acute kidney injury in traumatic and non‐traumatic rhabdomyolysis using an interpretable machine learning model: A multicenter study with external validation

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and severe complication of rhabdomyolysis (RM), and early risk stratification remains challenging because of its multifactorial and heterogeneous nature. We developed and externally validated an interpretable machine learning (ML) model for early prediction of AKI in RM across traumatic and non‐traumatic ...

Essential Amino Acid Supplementation May Attenuate Systemic Inflammation and Improve Hypoalbuminemia in Subacute Hemiplegic Stroke Patients

open access: yesMetabolites
Background: Post-stroke inflammation and hypoalbuminemia can negatively affect neurocognitive recovery. This study evaluated whether oral amino acid (AA) supplementation with prevalently essential amino acids (EAAs, 82.1%) could improve inflammation and ...

Association of hypoalbuminemia and reversal of albumin-to-globulin ratio with morbidity outcome among hospitalized Lassa fever infected patients at a dedicated treatment center in Ondo state, south-western Nigeria

open access: yesFuture Science OA, 2020
Background: As of this present moment, there is paucity of data on report concerning the association between hypoalbuminaemia or reversal of albumin-to-globulin ratio and morbidity outcome in Lassa fever (LF) infection as a crucial determinant prognostic-

Long‐term outcomes of children with ulcerative colitis after acute severe colitis: A GETAID pédiatrique multicenter study

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Acute severe colitis (ASC) is a frequent and severe complication of ulcerative colitis (UC) with a high risk of colectomy. Effects of immunosuppressants and anti–tumor necrosis factor (anti‐TNF) agents on the risk of colectomy remain debated. We wished to study the evolution of French pediatric‐onset UC patients after ASC.

Improving nutritional assessment in pediatric anorexia nervosa: Clinical value of key serum biomarkers

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Reliable biochemical markers of starvation are needed to improve detection and monitoring of starvation in pediatric anorexia nervosa (AN), thus we explored new and revisited old potential serum biochemical markers. Methods In this prospective cohort study we included 65 pediatric patients with AN.
