Differential Evolution Algorithm in the Earthquake Hypocenter Location

Pure and Applied Geophysics, 2001
— A novel global optimizing algorithm — Differential Evolution (DE) — has appeared recently. This method is easy and advantageous when used for kinematic location of the earthquake hypocenter. The motivation for implementing a robust (i.e., global and nonlinear) optimizing algorithm for the location problem is to obtain better results than those from ...

An Attention-Based Hypocenter Estimator for Earthquake Localization

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2022
The accuracy of earthquake localization is of great importance for earthquake monitoring systems. Traditionally, numerical optimization methods are used to estimate the hypocenter location and the origin time of an earthquake in an iterative manner. The traditional methods usually depend on certain theoretical models, but the geological conditions in ...

Hypocenter Hotspots Illuminated Using a New Cross‐Correlation‐Based Hypocenter and Centroid Relocation Method

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2021
AbstractAccurate earthquake locations are important for understanding earthquake processes. Recent advances in earthquake relocation methods have resulted in relative centroid locations with smaller uncertainties using cross‐correlation‐based methods.

A Digital Hypocenter Catalog for the International Seismological Summary

Seismological Research Letters, 2005
A reliable catalog of earthquake locations and magnitudes spanning long periods of time is a fundamental requirement for a wide variety of seismological studies, including seismotectonics, Earth structure, and seismic hazard. On a global scale, the most comprehensive source of earthquake locations, phase data, and magnitudes is the Bulletin of the ...

Characteristic Analysis of Pulse Discharge Hypocenter

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2016
This paper described a pulse discharge hypocenter system, which can be used to carry out arc pulse discharge and corona discharge. At the same time, an experimental platform was set up, which consists of a pulse hypocenter system, a voltage–current measurement unit, a digital oscilloscope and a seismic detection system.

Fasthypo -- A Hypocenter Location Program

Seismological Research Letters, 1979
A simple, understandable FORTRAN computer program for the location of hypocenters of local and regional earthquakes is presented. The program is designed for interactive timesharing use and offers the ability to locate earthquakes quickly, obviating the need of punching data cards and submitting them to a central computer facility.
