Relationship of hypocenters of earthquakes to the geology of Alaska

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1966
The hypocenters of about 300 well-recorded earthquakes in mainland Alaska, the Alaska Peninsula, and adjacent offshore areas that occurred during the 10-year period before the Alaska earthquake of March 28, 1964, were relocated using an iterative least-squares method.

A new regional hypocenter location method

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1996
AbstractA new regional hypocenter location method is presented in this article to address location problems associated with sparse station distributions and lack of velocity information. For an arbitrary slowness structure, an unknown parameter, slowness deviation, is introduced to construct a more precise slowness model than a homogeneous slowness ...

A semi-empirical analysis of hypocenter mislocations

Tectonophysics, 1989
Abstract Daily experience in locating man-made seismic events shows that small travel-time residuals and small standard errors do not necessarily guarantee accurate hypocenter solutions. Experience also shows that, in many cases, hypocenter error estimates which are based on the assumption that the time residuals are randomly distributed may yield ...

Refined hypocenters and accurate reliability estimates

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1975
Abstract A new method of correcting station arrival times for systematic source and station effects has been developed. The method yields source-region/station time (SRST) corrections which have a simple spatial variation and which are valid, in terms of yielding accurate focal depths and relative epicenters, over large areas. The method

Evaluating the Fit of Alternative Hypocenters to Arrival Times

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2003
Statistical methods for comparing travel time residuals are reviewed and the importance of using a statistic that is both robust and a measure of dispersion is demonstrated. Results from relocations based on travel times from the Jeffreys-Bullen (JB) tables and from a tomographic (3D) model are compared using the variance of the Winsorized samples ...

Joint Hypocenter Determination along the Gulf of Aqaba

Proceedings, 2013
A total number of 100 earthquakes recorded by more than 14 stations from Egypt and Saudi Arabia Seismic Networks around the Gulf of Aqaba were relocated and the seismic stations correction for P-wave is estimated using joint hypocenter determination method.
