Improved pH buffering agent for sodium hypochlorite [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Sodium citrate/citric acid was found to be an effective buffer for pH control when used with sodium hypochlorite. The mixture does not corrode aluminum.

Iflaviruses in arthropods: when small is mighty

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Many arthropod species harbor iflaviruses, which often cause covert (asymptomatic) infections, but may still affect host fitness. We review the impact of iflaviruses on arthropod fitness, immunity, behaviour as well as the iflavirus’ host range, transmission, tissue tropism and the interactions with other microorganisms within arthropods.

Coupling gel electrophoresis with photoluminescence reveals biochrome complexes in modern and fossil shells

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis is commonly used to visualize mixtures of proteins, such as those embedded in calcareous biominerals. However, it is ineffective for the detection of biochromes, a major class of low molecular weight organic compounds commonly associated with calcified exoskeletons.

Transcription factor OsBZ8 directly activates multiple methylerythritol 4‐phosphate and the mevalonate pathway genes in rice seeds

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, EarlyView.
In a one‐hybrid assay, yeast growth can only be seen in the third segment of the plates (3), confirming that OsBZ8 specifically binds to the G‐box or hybrid G/C‐box motifs in the wild‐type promoters of OsHMGR1, OsDXS2 and OsIPPI1. In contrast, void bait plasmids (1) and constructs under the control of mutant promoters (2) do not support growth ...

Effectiveness of the iVac System Compared to Conventional Irrigation and Ultrasonic Activation in Reducing Microbial Biofilm, Lipopolysaccharides and Apical Extrusion

open access: yesAustralian Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This in vitro study evaluated the effectiveness of irrigation techniques (IT)—conventional irrigation (CI), ultrasonic activation (UA), and iVac system (IA)‐ using 2.5% NaOCl and saline in reducing Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans in root canals and intratubular dentine.

Evaluation of Post‐Endodontic Pain Reduction Using Intracanal Cryotherapy in Symptomatic Apical Periodontitis

open access: yesAustralian Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This prospective experimental study evaluated the efficacy of intracanal cryotherapy in reducing postoperative pain in patients with symptomatic apical periodontitis. Ninety participants with necrotic pulp and preoperative pain (VAS ≥ 7) were randomised into two groups: Group A received room‐temperature saline irrigation, while Group B ...

Accuracy of Apex Locator Integrated Endomotors in Estimating Working Length in the Presence of Endodontic Irrigants: An Ex Vivo Study

open access: yesAustralian Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurate working length determination is crucial for root canal treatment. This ex vivo study evaluated the accuracy of a standalone apex locator (Root ZX Mini) and two integrated apex locator‐endomotors (EnDrive and X‐Smart Pro+) under different intracanal conditions.
