Qualitative Real‐Time Disinfection Monitoring through Lipid Nanoparticle‐Separated Fluorophore‐Quencher Pairs

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, EarlyView.
A real‐time method for monitoring surface disinfection is presented using fluorescence‐labeled DNA and lipid nanoparticles. The system detects chemical disintegration caused by disinfectants, producing an immediate fluorescence change visible with simple tools.

Lifting the lid: a clinical audit on commode cleaning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Many healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) are preventable by infection control procedures designed to interrupt the transmission of organisms from a source. Commodes are in use constantly throughout healthcare facilities.

Prolonged quiescence delays somatic stem cell-like divisions in Caenorhabditis elegans and is controlled by insulin signaling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Cells can enter quiescence in adverse conditions and resume proliferation when the environment becomes favorable. Prolonged quiescence comes with a cost, reducing the subsequent speed and potential to return to proliferation. Here, we show that a similar

Potentiometric Determination of Chlorate Impurities in Hypochlorite Solutions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 2019
The method of iodometric determination of chlorates impurities in sodium hypochlorite solutions for medical and veterinary purposes was developed. This method does not require sophisticated equipment and can be implemented directly where the solutions ...

Top‐Down Fabricated Wood‐Derived Pressure and Strain Sensors: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review focuses on wood‐derived pressure/strain sensors fabricated via top‐down strategies. It analyzes wood's structural composition, examines processing techniques, discusses sensor types and sensing mechanisms, and reviews existing research. The article concludes with future directions for enhancing performance and scalability.

An Anthracene Carboxamide-Based Fluorescent Probe for Rapid and Sensitive Detection of Mitochondrial Hypochlorite in Living Cells

open access: yesBiosensors, 2023
Mitochondrial hypochlorite (ClO−) plays important and often contradictory roles in maintaining the redox balance of mitochondria. Abnormal ClO− levels can induce mitochondrial inactivation and further cause cell apoptosis.

A Transmembrane Protein WAI‐B2 Confers Multiple Disease Resistance in Wheat by Activating Autoimmunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wheat production is under threat from multiple diseases. This study clones the wheat autoimmunity gene WAI‐B2 from an EMS‐induced mutant that encodes a distinct transmembrane protein conferring resistance to wheat rusts and powdery mildew ‐ two major diseases affecting wheat crops.

Distinct Phage‐Encoded Enzymes for Substitution of Deoxythymidine by Deoxyuridine in Phage Genomes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Distinct enzymes including dCTP deaminases (Dcds), dTMP phosphatases (Dtms), and dTTP pyrophosphatases (Dtt) are found to be responsible for dU‐DNA biosynthesis in the phages PBS1, DSS3_VP1, and PhiR1‐37. Both PhiR1‐37‐derived and synthetic dU‐DNA are resistant to cleavage by restriction enzymes and Cas12a nuclease targeting dT‐containing sites.
