Behavior of Polyamide Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis Membranes in Acidic NaOCl Environment

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 142, Issue 22, June 10, 2025.
The study investigates the effect of chlorination by NaOCl in acidic pH on RO membranes. A sudden drop in the pure water flux is observed post‐chlorine exposure, along with increased crystallinity of the polyamide layer; the flux increases after salt passage. This is attributed to conformational changes at low chlorine concentrations.

Promutagenicity of 8-Chloroguanine, A Major Inflammation-Induced Halogenated DNA Lesion

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Chronic inflammation is closely associated with cancer development. One possible mechanism for inflammation-induced carcinogenesis is DNA damage caused by reactive halogen species, such as hypochlorous acid, which is released by myeloperoxidase to kill ...

Metal–Organic Frameworks: Unlocking New Frontiers in Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 22, June 12, 2025.
Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), are composed of metal ions and bridging organic ligands, are recognized as an excellent platform for host‐gust chemistry. Its rich structural composition, modifiable sites, and multilevel pore distribution can provide delivery and release of signaling molecules, probes, and therapeutic drugs, which exhibit great medical

Antoine-Jerôme Balard. The discoverer of bromine

open access: yesRevista CENIC Ciencias Químicas, 2004
To Antoine-Jerôme Balard (1802-1876) we owe the discovery of bromine, oxamic acid, hypochlorous acid, and chlorine monoxide, and of having been the mentor of Pasteur and Berthelot.

Automated Microsolvation for Minimum Energy Path Construction in Solution [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Describing chemical reactions in solution on a molecular level is a challenging task due to the high mobility of weakly interacting solvent molecules which requires configurational sampling. For instance, polar and protic solvents can interact strongly with solutes and may interfere in reactions.

A Highly Reversible Aqueous Sulfur‐Dual‐Halogen Battery Enabled by a Water‐in‐Bisalt Electrolyte

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 23, June 12, 2025.
An aqueous sulfur‐dual halogen battery (ASHBs) has been developed by using Cl−‐containing water‐in‐bisalt (WiBS) electrolyte, iodine composite cathode, and sulfur/MXene composite anode. The as‐assembled ASHBs deliver a superior electrochemical performance based on dual‐halogen conversion reactions.

Draught beer hygiene: cleaning of dispense tap nozzles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Draught beer quality can be compromised by the growth of spoilage microorganisms. Whilst best practice for assuring dispense hygiene is broadly recognized, it is not always fully or regularly implemented.
