Radiation‐induced tongue myokymia with hypoglossal nerve damage, mimicker of motor neuron disease
Key Clinical Message This teaching case of tongue myokymia offers clear electromyographic findings of myokymic discharges on two different sweeps. Radiation‐induced tongue myokymia should be considered in the differential diagnosis for motor neuron disease ( MND ).

Identification of pathways of degeneration and protection in motor neuron diseases [PDF]
Motor neuron diseases preferentially affect specific neuronal populations with distinct clinical features even if disease-causing genes are expressed in many cell types. In spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), somatic motor neurons are selectively vulnerable

When Nothing Goes Right: An Unexpected Tongue Deviation in Internal Carotid Artery Dissection
Internal carotid artery dissection is a frequent cause of stroke in young people. The artery dissection and the formation of an intramural hematoma could also cause mass effect on surrounding structures, causing disorders such as cranial nerve palsies ...

CRF and urocortin peptides as modulators of energy balance and feeding behavior during stress. [PDF]
Early on, corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), a hallmark brain peptide mediating many components of the stress response, was shown to affect food intake inducing a robust anorexigenic response when injected into the rodent brain.

The Bidirectional Relationship Between Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Metabolic Disease [PDF]
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder, effecting 17% of the total population and 40–70% of the obese population (1, 2). Multiple studies have identified OSA as a critical risk factor for the development of obesity, diabetes, and ...
