Accumulating evidence suggests that varicocele, long associated with male infertility, is also a risk factor for low testosterone levels. The exact pathophysiology of the negative effects of varicocele on testicular function is not well understood, but theories include venous stasis, increased testicular temperature, oxidative stress, and resulting ...

Mixed hypogonadism: a neglected combined form of hypogonadism
Endocrine, 2023Kallmann syndrome is a rare disease characterized by delayed puberty, infertility and anosmia. We report the clinical and genetic characteristics of three patients with Kallmann syndrome who presented with Klinefelter syndrome and defined this neglected combined form of hypogonadism as mixed hypogonadism.Clinical data and examinations were obtained ...

The hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis regulates the development, endocrine and reproductive function of the gonads throughout all phases of life. Male hypogonadism is defined an inadequate gonadal function, as manifested by deficiency in gametogenesis and/or secretion of gonadal hormones.

Testosterone Treatment and Fractures in Men with Hypogonadism.
New England Journal of MedicineBACKGROUND Testosterone treatment in men with hypogonadism improves bone density and quality, but trials with a sufficiently large sample and a sufficiently long duration to determine the effect of testosterone on the incidence of fractures are needed.

The relationship between obesity and hypogonadism is complicated. The relationship is bidirectional and there are numerous causative and correlative factors on both sides of the equation. Obesity is increasing in prevalence in epidemic proportions. Likewise, we are beginning to see the rapid increase in the incidence of male hypogonadism.

Hypogonadism is a common finding in men, involving up to 5% of the population. Diagnosis of hypogonadism is dependent on clinical examination. Laboratory studies will confirm the cause. Treatment of testosterone deficiency is readily achieved; however, correction of spermatogenesis depends on the cause of the testicular failure.

This article outlines the changing pattern of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)-induced gonadotropin secretion across sexual development, a knowledge of which is critical to understanding GnRH secretion in pathologic states such as hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.

Hypogonadism is a frequent condition, in particular during adult age. Whereas no doubts exist on the opportunity of treating patients with hypogonadism deriving from definite conditions affecting the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis, more concerns are present for treatment of men with age-related testosterone (T) decline, the so-called late onset

Objective: The association between erectile dysfunction (ED), hypogonadism, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes is well documented, but long-term data are limited. The aim of this study is to investigate effects of long-term testosterone therapy (

Subclinical male hypogonadism [PDF]
Male hypogonadism is traditionally defined as the inadequate production of testosterone and impaired spermatozoa generation in the presence of elevated or reduced levels of gonadotropins. A more frequent measurement of testosterone levels and the development of highly sensitive and specific assays have led to the detection of less clinically evident ...
