Despite advances in surgical and nonsurgical treatment, overall survival rates for patients who have hypopharyngeal carcinoma have not improved, and this disease still has a poor prognosis. The best results are obtained with multimodality therapy. but at best, two thirds of patients are palliated rather than cured of disease.

Myxofibrosarcoma of the hypopharynx
Auris Nasus Larynx, 2006Myxofibrosarcoma is common in the extremities, but rare in the head and neck region. Hypopharyngeal myxofibrosarcoma has not been reported previously. We report the first case of a patient with myxofibrosarcoma of the hypopharynx. We examined this patient once a month after the operation, and there has been no local recurrence and no distant metastasis.

Hamartomas of the hypopharynx are rare. Detailed microscopic study is necessary to differentiate these tumors from the adult-type rhabdomyoma, pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma, and granular cell tumor. To our knowledge, our case of a hypopharyngeal rhabdomyomatous hamartoma removed by a lateral pharyngotomy is the only verified hypopharyngeal case in the ...
