Cell Death in Neurodegenerative Diseases: Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
Regulated cell death pathways, including apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis, ferroptosis, and autophagy‐dependent cell death, interact with mitochondrial dysfunction, proteostasis failure, lysosomal stress, glial remodeling, and neuroinflammation across major neurodegenerative diseases.

Post-COVID-19 hyposmia does not exhibit main neurodegeneration markers in the olfactory pathway [PDF]

open access: yes
The biological substrate of persistent post-COVID-19 hyposmia is still unclear. However, as many neurodegenerative diseases present with smell impairment at onset, it may theoretically reflect degeneration within the central olfactory circuits.

Personalization and Fortification of In‐Space Manufactured Emulsified Beverages for Long‐Term Space Travel

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The current trend of individualized food items (nutrient content and flavor) can be particularly valuable to support people's health and well‐being in isolated environments where access to fresh foods and diverse nutrition is difficult. At the same time, bioactive compounds and micronutrients can be employed to countermeasure any health ...

Progression to Dementia in Very Late‐Onset Schizophrenia‐Like Psychosis Stratified by Alzheimer's Disease and Lewy Body Disease Biomarkers: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesPsychogeriatrics, Volume 26, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Very late‐onset schizophrenia‐like psychosis (VLOSLP) is clinically heterogeneous, and its relationship with dementia‐related neurodegenerative disease remains unresolved. We examined whether Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Lewy body disease (LBD) biomarker status were associated with dementia progression in VLOSLP.

Hyposmia as a marker of (non-)motor disease severity in Parkinson's disease

open access: yes, 2019
The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship of hyposmia in Parkinson’s disease (PD) with other motor and non-motor symptoms and with the degree of nigrostriatal dopaminergic cell loss.
