Exploring plant tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Plants are exposed to many stress factors, such as drought, high salinity or pathogens, which reduce the yield of the cultivated plants or affect the quality of the harvested products. Arabidopsis thaliana was used as a model plant to study the responses

Cell Calcification Models and Their Implications for Medicine and Biomaterial Research

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Calcification, is the process by which the tissues containing minerals are formed, occurring during normal physiological processes, or in pathological conditions. Here, it is aimed to give a comprehensive overview of the range of cell models available, and the approaches taken by these models, highlighting when and how methodological divergences arise,

Hypoxia, Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α, and Innate Antileishmanial Immune Responses

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Low oxygen environments and accumulation of hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) are features of infected and inflamed tissues. Here, we summarize our current knowledge on oxygen levels found in Leishmania-infected tissues and discuss which mechanisms ...

Photoactivated Proximity Protein Labeling Reveals Enhanced Tumor Retention of a D‐Peptide‐Ruthenium Prodrug Conjugate

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Six stereoisomeric ruthenium‐peptide conjugates were synthesized and characterized, which showed high potential in photoactivated chemotherapy (PACT) and proximity protein labeling. Abstract Amino acid chirality is known to influence the biological properties of peptide‐containing prodrugs.

Hypoxia upregulates PGI-synthase and increases PGI2 release in human vascular cells exposed to inflammatory stimuli

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2011
Hypoxia affects vascular function and cell metabolism, survival, growth, and motility; these processes are partially regulated by prostanoids. We analyzed the effect of hypoxia and inflammation on key enzymes involved in prostanoid biosynthesis in human ...

The Evolution of Cholesterol-Rich Membrane in Oxygen Adaption: The Respiratory System as a Model. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The increase in atmospheric oxygen levels imposed significant environmental pressure on primitive organisms concerning intracellular oxygen concentration management.

Selective Inhibition of Factor Inhibiting Hypoxia-Inducible Factor

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2005
A set of four non-heme iron(II) and 2-oxoglutarate-dependent enzymes catalyze the post-translational modification of a transcription factor, hypoxia inducible factor (HIF), that mediates the hypoxic response in animals. Hydroxylation of HIF both causes its degradation and limits its activity.
