New records of anurans in the state of Maranhão, Brazil: Hypsiboas boans (Linnaeus, 1758) (Hylidae) and Leptodactylus syphax Bokermann, 1969 (Leptodactylidae) [PDF]

open access: yesCheck List, 2013
We report two new records of anurans in the northeastern region of the state of Maranhão, Brazil. The records extend the distribution of Hypsiboas boans (Linnaeus, 1758) outside the Amazon basin, and represent the first record of Leptodactylus syphax ...

Expected impacts of climate change threaten the anuran diversity in the Brazilian hotspots

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 8, Issue 16, Page 7894-7906, August 2018., 2018
We performed Ecological Niche Models (ENMs) to generate anuran climatically suitable areas in the Brazilian hotspots, considering the baseline and future climate change scenarios, to evaluate the differences on the alpha and beta diversity metrics across time.

Robust calling performance in frogs infected by a deadly fungal pathogen

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 6, Issue 16, Page 5964-5972, August 2016., 2016
We examined whether calls emitted by frogs Litoria rheocola with fungal infections differed from those of uninfected individuals in duration, pulse rate, dominant frequency, call rate, or intercall interval, the attributes commonly linked to mate choice. We found no effects of fungal infection status or infection intensity on any call attribute.

Consequences of agroindustrial sugarcane production to freshwater biodiversity

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 8, Issue 3, Page 644-657, May 2016., 2016
Abstract The environmental benefits of a broad‐scale adoption of biofuels are critically contingent on what current land uses will be converted for feedstock expansion and how converted land will be managed. We assessed the consequences of land use and land management for the agroindustrial production of sugarcane to the physical, chemical, and ...

The role of glacial cycles in promoting genetic diversity in the Neotropics: the case of cloud forests during the Last Glacial Maximum

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 3, Issue 3, Page 725-738, March 2013., 2013
In this synthesis we address the ongoing paleoecological debate regarding Neotropical precipitation during the last glacial period. We propose to test contrasting paleoecological hypotheses against the expected patterns of genetic diversity of cloud forest species.
