Galactic structure from the Spacelab infrared telescope. I - 2.4 micron map
The Infrared Telescope, flown aboard the Space Shuttle as part of the Spacelab-2 mission, scanned a large fraction of the sky at 2.4 microns with a resolution of approximately 1 deg. A calibrated map of the Galactic plane in the region -20-120 deg l and -30-30 deg b. The photometry is accurate to a surface brightness of mu K = 20.0 mag/arcsec.

Probing feedback in protogalaxies: multiphase gas in a DLA atz≈ 2.4 [PDF]
We investigate the physical processes occuring in the multiphase gas of a damped Lyαsystem (DLA). We base our analysis on a high quality Keck HIRES spectrum of the QSO J1211+0422 in which a DLA is detected at z=2.377. There is little contamination of the high-ion (OVI, NV, CIV, SiIV) absorption, allowing us to explore the properties of the highly ...

Ionised outflows inz~ 2.4 quasar host galaxies [PDF]
Aims. Outflows driven by active galactic nuclei (AGN) are invoked by galaxy evolutionary models to quench star formation and to explain the origin of the relations observed locally between super-massive black holes and their host galaxies. We here aim to detect extended ionised outflows in luminous quasars, where we expect the highest activity both in

Backward Reachability of Array-based Systems by SMT solving: Termination and Invariant Synthesis [PDF]
The safety of infinite state systems can be checked by a backward reachability procedure. For certain classes of systems, it is possible to prove the termination of the procedure and hence conclude the decidability of the safety problem.

Background and Objectives: Precise acetabular cup placement is essential for successful total hip arthroplasty (THA). In obese patients, its accuracy is often difficult to achieve because of the thickness of the soft tissues.

Reachability Analysis of Innermost Rewriting [PDF]
We consider the problem of inferring a grammar describing the output of a functional program given a grammar describing its input. Solutions to this problem are helpful for detecting bugs or proving safety properties of functional programs, and several ...
