ICAM-1 signaling in endothelial cells

Pharmacological Reports, 2009
Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1; CD54) is a 90 kDa member of the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily and is critical for the firm arrest and transmigration of leukocytes out of blood vessels and into tissues. ICAM-1 is constitutively present on endothelial cells, but its expression is increased by proinflammatory cytokines.

Circulating forms of intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)-1 in mice lacking membranous ICAM-1

Blood, 2000
Mice deficient in intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), lacking membranous ICAM-1, show a normal development but abnormalities of inflammatory and immune functions. Although the membrane-bound form of ICAM-1 is not detectable in the mutant strain, circulating ICAM-1 (cICAM) is present in serum from ICAM-1-deficient mice in similar amounts as in ...

Role of ICAM-1 in antigen presentation demonstrated by ICAM-1 defective mutants.

The Journal of Immunology, 1990
Abstract We report a methodology for selecting APC with mutations that have impaired their ability to present Ag to T cells. A20 B lymphoblastoid cells were mutagenized and then repeatedly cocultured with murine T-T hybridomas in the presence of specific Ag. During these cocultures, the T-T hybridomas kill the competent APC, allowing the

ICAM-1-dependent fibroblast-lymphocyte adhesion: Discordance between surface expression and function of ICAM-1

Cellular Immunology, 1990
We have previously reported that stimulation of human fibroblasts (FB) with interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) leads to their increased adhesiveness for resting peripheral blood T lymphocytes. With the use of blocking monoclonal antibodies, we determined that intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and its T cell ligand, lymphocyte function-associated ...

Circulating ICAM-1 in Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis

International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 1995
The intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) level in the serum of patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis was measured using a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Circulating ICAM-1 was significantly elevated in the sera of all 19 patients as compared with normal healthy subjects. There was no correlation with the Child grade of the disease,

Clonal senescence alters endothelial ICAM-1 function

Mechanisms of Ageing and Development, 2006
Little is known how age alters the dynamics and function of cell adhesion molecules, especially under inflammatory and stressful conditions. One membrane constituent, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) is a transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily that regulates key outside-->in and inside-->out signals associated with ...

Sequence and expression of rat ICAM-1

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1992
We have isolated cDNA clones-coding for rat intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (RICAM-1) from a cDNA library constructed from rat Ax cells stimulated with IL-1 beta using the mouse ICAM-1 cDNA as a hybridization probe. The RICAM-1 sequence shows 79.1% homology with mouse ICAM-1 and 55.6% homology with human ICAM-1 at the nucleic acid level.
