To further understand the mechanism of lymphocyte accumulation within the thyroid gland in autoimmune thyroid disease we have examined the expression, regulation, and functional significance of the intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1, CD54) in human thyroid monolayer cells and immortalized thyroid cell clones.

Herpesvirus infection of ICAM-1–deficient mice
Current Eye Research, 2004To determine the effect of ICAM-1 deficiency on viral infection of the cornea.Wild-type and intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1)-deficient mice were infected with the RE strain of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). Corneal swabs and trigeminal ganglia were obtained and analyzed for infectious virus. Corneas and trigeminal ganglia were evaluated

Targeting LFA-1/ICAM-1 interaction using ICAM-1 binding elastin-like polypeptide
2020Autoimmune diseases are an increasing health care concern. Patients are often prescribed immunosuppressants or steroids that can subdue symptoms, but not cure the disease. Immunosuppressants have shown to be effective for suppressing an overactive immune system, however, increase the chance of infection, cause nausea and overall tiredness or weakness ...

Physical separation of ICAM-1 binding cells
Journal of Immunological Methods, 1992Studies of interactions between specific molecules involved in adhesion between cells are often complicated since cells possess many different types of surface molecules influencing adhesion. To be able to further study interactions between the adhesive cell surface molecule LFA-1 and its ligand ICAM-1, we have produced an ICAM-1 fusion protein in ...

Value of ICAM-1 Expression and Soluble ICAM-1 Level as a Marker of Activity in Sarcoidosis
Chest, 1999The natural course of sarcoidosis is variable, but no single parameter has been generally accepted as a good marker for disease activity. Adhesion molecules are required for the migration of inflammatory cells; thus, they may be markers of activity in sarcoidosis. In 16 patients with active sarcoidosis and 11 with inactive disease (10 were male, 17 were

Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 1996
Differences in expression of intercellular adhesion molecule‐1 (ICAM‐1) and ICAM‐1 mRNA levels were studied in cultured skin and oral keratinocytes before and after stimulation with different pro‐inflammatory cytokines. Basal expression of ICAM‐1 was undetectable on skin keratinocytes but oral keratinocytes expressed ICAM‐1 at high levels.

[ICAM-1 and allergic inflammation].
Allergie et immunologie, 1997Recent progress in the understanding of the physiopathology of asthma makes possible the revision of the objectives of treatment, to pass from short-term symptomatic control to a prolonged control of the illness. L'ICAM-1 is an excellent potential target for preventative treatment of asthma of viral origin.
