Ice-Cover Breakup and Ice Jamming
2019During the ice-cover period, initial ice-cover breakup precedes ice-jam flood events. Hence, it is important that breakup processes are well understood in order to be better prepared for ice-jam flood forecasting. Being able to predict ice-cover breakup provides an indication when ice-jam flood forecasting should commence.

Ice-covered lakes form a specific environment. Seasonally ice-covered lakes are common in a wide inhabited latitudinal zone in the northern hemisphere, while perennial lake ice can be found only in some remote polar and mountain locations. The ice cover sets limitations to ecosystems in that light is absent or weak in mid-winter, oxygen is not renewed,

Hydraulic Roughness of Ice Covers
Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1973Cold region rivers and canals covered with ice have been found to develop ripple-like reliefs on the ice underside causing head losses considerably in excess of those of smooth boundaries. Observations showed that ice thickness near the banks was several times that of the conveying part of the waterway.

Bearing capacity of ice covers
Cold Regions Science and Technology, 2009Readers of Cold Regions Science and Technology will certainly notice that the vast majority of papers published in this journal deal with problems caused by frozen water. The types of problems vary considerably and often deal with avalanches, river ice jams, ice loads on marine structures, frost heaving, etc.

During an observation of the surface of a lake in the Valdai hills, the author identified spring ice cover (shuga) displaying a distinct polygonal pattern. This paper presents, for the first time, its structural and material characteristics and proposes a hypothesis regarding the potential behavior of the ice cover under specific conditions: the ...

Aerosol Optical Depth, Ice Cover, and Cloud Cover
2014This chapter investigated the relationships between aerosol optical depth, sea-ice cover (ICE), and cloud cover (CLD) in the Greenland Sea in 20°W–10°E, 65°N–85°N during the period 2003–2012. We focused more on 70°N–80°N and divided it into two 5° zonal apart. Remote sense satellite data were used to do correlation analysis. Enhanced statistics methods
