Lyophilized Synthetic Platelets: In Vitro Characterization and in Vivo Evaluation in Mouse Thrombocytopenia Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Platelet transfusions to treat bleeding complications use donor‐derived platelets stored at room‐temperature, that have a shelf‐life of only 5–7 days due to bacterial contamination risks. Cold‐stored and freeze‐dried platelets are being investigated for extending shelf‐life, but these still have the inherent challenge of donor‐dependency.

Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...

Flexural-gravity waves generated by different load sizes and configurations on varying ice cover [PDF]

open access: yes
Three-dimensional nonlinear flexural-gravity waves generated by moving loads on the surface of an ice cover floating upon water of infinite depth are computed using a boundary-integral equation approach.

Atmospheric and oceanographic signatures in the ice‐shelf channel morphology of Roi Baudouin Ice Shelf, East Antarctica, inferred from radar data

open access: yes, 2020
Ice shelves around Antarctica can provide back stress for outlet glaciers and control ice sheet mass loss. They often contain narrow bands of thin ice termed ice shelf channels.

A Dual‐Channel Synergistic Ultrasensitive Biosensor for Tumor Liquid Biopsy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Liquid biopsy technology, which detects circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in cerebrospinal fluid, plays a crucial role in the early diagnosis and precision treatment of gliomas. However, the intrinsically low abundance and rapid clearance of ctDNA pose substantial challenges for conventional analytical techniques, such as droplet digital PCR and ...

Spatiotemporal Control of Formation of Dynamic Protein Fiber Assemblies via Photophysical Effects of a Focused Laser Beam

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tightly focused laser irradiation can accumulate tubulin proteins at/around the laser focus, which leads to the formation of highly ordered microtubule assemblies. The assemblies can exhibit various dynamic behaviors such as radial motion, bundling, and flagella‐like rotation with motor protein and chemical energy, highlighting as a unique tool for ...

Enhancing Biogenic Formic Acid Production in the Modified OxFA Process by Acetonitrile Addition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, the beneficial effect of using acetonitrile as a co‐solvent in the modified OxFA process is shown, outperforming methanol, demonstrating improved reaction kinetics combined with high selectivity for the HPA‐2 (H5PV2Mo10O40) catalyzed oxidation of xylose to FA.

Sea ice feedbacks observed in western Weddell Sea

open access: yes, 2006
The German research icebreaker RV Polarstern drifted within the western Weddell Sea pack from 27 November, 2004 until 2 January, 2005, initially anchored to a 10 km x 10 km sized floe. This was composed of 2-m thick second-year ice with 0.8 m snow on top,
