Shear phenomena in ice-thrust gravels, central Alberta

Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences, 1978
Pressures exerted by the continental ice sheet produced sheared zones and a pervasive crushing of strong quartzite clasts in preglacial Saskatchewan Gravels of central Alberta. Where deformation is of moderate intensity clasts have fractured at points of impingement with other clasts, and clasts of 3–6 cm in the longest dimension are most likely to be

Ultrasonic modeling of sea ice seismoacoustic wave phenomena

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1993
A variety of broadband Arctic seismoacoustic wave phenomena are demonstrated using laboratory ultrasonic modeling techniques introduced by the author in the mid 1970s to study the generation, propagation, detection, and scattering of low-frequency underwater acoustic waves coupled to the heterogeneous ice cover.

River Kymijoki ice phenomena and water quality

2014
In this paper we will present results from field measurements at the River Kymijoki gathered during winter 2011/2012. River Kymijoki research project was started in fall 2011 and these results are part of the results that were made for master’s thesis of Tom Kokkonen.

Melting, freezing, and channeling phenomena in ice counterwashers

AIChE Journal, 1976
AbstractThermal phenomena are associated with the operation of ice counter‐washers, a major component for the separation of ice and brine in freeze crystallization processes. Melting, freezing, and channeling in the upper leg of the counterwasher occur because of the temperature difference between the wash water and the ice and have important effects ...
