An East Antarctic, sub-annual resolution water isotope record from the Mount Brown South Ice core

open access: yesScientific Data
We report high resolution measurements of the stable water isotope ratios (δ 18O, δD) from the Mount Brown South ice core (MBS, 69.11° S 86.31° E). The record covers the period 873 - 2009 CE with sub-annual temporal resolution.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Experimental and numerical modeling of high speed ice impact onto rigid target [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The core goal of this research is to develop an ice impact modelling methodology for ice impact on aircraft structures. The main current limitation of ice impact analysis is the ice constitutive model, so this research is focussed on the assessment and ...

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

Ice processes and surface ablation in a shallow thermokarst lake in the central Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesAnnals of Glaciology, 2016
The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP) is characterized by a cold climate and a large number of lakes. The long ice season necessitates study of the widespread ice covers in the region.
