The physics of ice sheets

Physics Education, 2008
The great ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland are vast deposits of frozen freshwater that contain enough to raise sea level by approximately 70 m if they were to completely melt. Because of the potentially catastrophic impact that ice sheets can have, it is important that we understand how ice sheets have responded to past climate changes and will ...

Erosion of ices: Physical and astrophysical discussion

Radiation Effects, 1986
Abstract We have irradiated thin films of H2O ice at 77 K with keV ions (H+, He+, C+, Ne+). The measurements of the thicknesses of the films have been performed by in situ infrared spectrometry. We have studied the variation of the erosion rates with the current, the mass and the energy of the incident ions.
