An Analysis of the Water-to-Ice Phase Transition Using Acoustic Plate Waves

open access: yesSensors, 2021
It is shown that, in spite of the wave radiation into the adjacent liquid, a large group of Lamb waves are able to propagate along piezoelectric plates (quartz, LiNbO3, LiTaO3) coated with a liquid layer (distilled water H2O).

Ice-Water-Gas Interaction during Icebreaking by an Airgun Bubble

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
When an airgun releases high-pressure gas underwater below an ice plate, it is observed that a bubble is formed rapidly while the ice plate is broken fiercely.

The applicability of physical optics in the millimetre and sub-millimetre spectral region. Part II: Application to a three-component model of ice cloud and its evaluation against the bulk single-scattering properties of various other aggregate models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The bulk single-scattering properties of various randomly oriented aggregate ice crystal models are com- pared and contrasted at a number of frequencies between 89 and 874 GHz.

Hydraulic falls under a floating ice plate due to submerged obstructions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Steady two-dimensional nonlinear flexural–gravity hydraulic falls past a submerged obstruction on the bottom of a channel are considered. The fluid is assumed to be ideal and is covered above by a thin ice plate.

Low-temperature muon spin rotation studies of the monopole charges and currents in Y doped Ho2Ti2O7 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In the ground state of Ho2Ti2O7 spin ice, the disorder of the magnetic moments follows the same rules as the proton disorder in water ice. Excitations take the form of magnetic monopoles that interact via a magnetic Coulomb interaction.

2D numerical modeling of icebreaker advancing in ice-covered water

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2018
This paper presents 2D numerical modeling to calculate ship–ice interactions that occur when an icebreaker advances into ice-covered water. The numerical model calculates repeated icebreaking of an ice plate and removal of small ice floes.

Abatement of Ocean-Wave Impact by Crevasses in an Ice Shelf

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
Forced ice-shelf oscillations modeling was undertaken employing a full 3D finite-difference model of an elastic ice shelf that was coupled to a treatment of under-shelf seawater flux.

Computation of a combined spherical-elastic and viscous-half-space earth model for ice sheet simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This report starts by describing the continuum model used by Lingle & Clark (1985) to approximate the deformation of the earth under changing ice sheet and ocean loads.

Double periodicity of mechanical properties of a thin ice field formed under conditions of lateral constraint

open access: yesЛëд и снег, 2023
Experimental data and results of theoretical modeling of the bending of a viscoelastic floating ice plate formed under constrained deformation are analyzed.
