VUV Spectroscopy of Extraterrestrial Ices
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2006Astrochemistry is the study of chemical processes under those conditions prevalent in astronomical environments. Due to the temperatures found in many astrophysical environments much of this chemistry is heterogeneous chemistry occurring within icy mantles found on planetary surfaces, within comets and on dust grains in the interstellar medium.

VUV spectroscopy of formamide ices
Chemical Physics Letters, 2012Vacuum UltraViolet (VUV) spectra of formamide ice have been studied using synchrotron radiation. VUV spectra of formamide ice recorded at 30 K revealed two photoabsorption bands, historically labelled V1 and Q in gas phase VUV spectra. However, in contrast to such gas phase spectra the Q band was found to be more intense than the V1 band in the ice ...

LEOS 2001. 14th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (Cat. No.01CH37242), 2002
We have shown that the THz-time-domain spectroscopy technique can be used to measure accurately the refractive indices of crystalline ice in the THz range. Our 0.25-1.0 THz results bridge the gap between the microwave and the far IR regions. They agree very well with the curve extrapolated from the microwave data of T. Matsuoka et al.

Vibrational spectroscopy of ion-irradiated ices
Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2001In the last 20 years we have studied some effects induced by fast ions (E approximately keV-MeV) impinging on solid materials (mainly ices) with a view to their astrophysical relevance. The main techniques used have been infrared and Raman spectroscopy.

Vibrational spectroscopy of ice interfaces
Applied Physics B, 2002Vibrational spectroscopy via infrared-visible sum-frequency generation was used to probe interfaces of hexagonal ice(0001) with vapor, a hydrophobic solid, and a hydrophilic solid. The OH stretch vibrational modes for hydrogen-bonded and free dangling OH bonds were measured at various temperatures below bulk melting.

VUV photoabsorption spectroscopy of sulfur dioxide ice
Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2006In this paper we present the first study of the VUV photoabsorption spectrum of condensed phase SO(2) recorded over the VUV region 120 to 320 nm (10.33 to 3.64 eV). Distinct spectral features were observed that can be used to distinguish between the formation of amorphous and crystalline ice structures.

Elastic constants of ice III by Brillouin spectroscopy
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1994Brillouin spectroscopy has been used to determine the adiabatic elastic constants of ice III at −20 °C and 2.2 kbar. A new technique was used to grow large single crystals. The bulk adiabatic moduli were found to be C11=153.7, C12=99.5, C13=65.1, C33=115.5, C44=44.6, C66=56.8 kbar.

Investigating ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy of ice
Solid State Communications, 1979Abstract Photoelectron energy distribution curves (EDCs) from ice excited by HeI (21.2 eV) and NeI (16.8 eV) radiation are presented. The strict connection between valence density of states and EDCs forces to rule out the previous suggestion by Shibaguchi et al. that conduction band density of states is of paramount importance in determining the EDCs

We present experimental 2D IR spectra of the OH stretch of ice Ih, for both the isotope dilute (5% HOD in D2O) and neat (100% H2O) cases, complemented by simulations using the Lippincott-Schroeder model.
