Iceberg Detection for Canadian Frontier Production
Offshore Technology Conference, 1981Abstract This paper specifies the operational requirements for a ship-based sensor system for reliable all weather detection and avoidance of ice obstacles for two applications:for station keeping at northerly dri11sites and production sites;for large, high-speed LNGC's as planned in the Arctic Pilot Project.

Global iceberg detection over distributed data streams
2010 IEEE 26th International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE 2010), 2010In today's Internet applications or sensor networks we often encounter large amounts of data spread over many physically distributed nodes. The sheer volume of the data and bandwidth constraints make it impractical to send all the data to one central node for query processing.

Iceberg Detection Using Simulated Radarsat Constellation Data
SNAME 11th International Conference and Exhibition on Performance of Ships and Structures in Ice, 2014Iceberg monitoring, as well as maritime surveillance in general, is an important application of synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and is a stated objective of the Radarsat Constellation, the next generation of Canada's Radarsat satellites. In this paper, we simulate Radarsat Constellation data in a number of different imaging modes, using Radarsat-2 ...

Iceberg detection using ERS-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar
International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1996Abstract We review the importance of iceberg monitoring and the current status of iceberg detection methods using spaceborne synthetic aperture radar, and describe the newly developed iceberg detection subsystem of the Ice Pilot Application Project sea ice system. Validation against in situ data from the European high Arctic and the North Atlantic near

Iceberg Detection and Operational Monitoring Using Altimeters
SNAME 10th International Conference and Exhibition on Performance of Ships and Structures in Ice, 2012A remote sensing technique, based on processing satellite altimeter data, for iceberg detection was validated and implemented for operational iceberg monitoring. Algorithms for altimeter data preprocessing and analysis were developed to efficiently detect icebergs and eliminate false detections caused by signal noise and the presence of small islands ...

Potential of SAR in detecting and monitoring icebergs
Cold Regions Science and Technology, 1980Abstract The almost all-weather, day/night operational capability and large area coverage of imaging radar systems are particularly useful for surveillance of the iceberg infested regions of the ocean. Prevailing bad weather conditions and lack of daylight conditions most of the time, preclude visual or infrared observations. The ability of synthetic

Iceberg detection using Cosmo-SkyMed satellite constellation images
SPIE Proceedings, 2009The new constellation of COSMO -SkyMed (CSK) satellites, which carry on board a SAR-X instrument, offers a unique opportunity for the study of sea ice distribution in polar regions and for the detection of drifting icebergs. To exploit this new class of SAR images, a specific processing scheme, consisting of 4 sequential blocks, was developed.

Rapidly detecting icebergs using ArcticDEM and Google Earth Engine
2021<p>High resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) allow for the detection of icebergs and their size distribution, potentially giving insights into spatial and temporal changes in calving dynamics and iceberg cover. Here we present a fully automated tool for iceberg detection in glaciated fjords, utilising timestamped ArcticDEM tile data

Detection and discrimination of icebergs and ships using satellite altimetry
2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017Recent research has confirmed that satellite altimetry can be used for detecting icebergs. In an effort to validate the altimetry-based approach, this study used 105 samples of icebergs contained in both satellite altimeter data and ENVISAT-ASAR scenes for the Weddell Sea area.

Long-range detection of hydroacoustic signals from large Antarctic icebergs
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2002T-waves are commonly observed on coastal seismographs of the French Polynesian Seismic Network (RSP), when an oceanic earthquake or an underwater explosion occurs, even for small events. T-waves are trapped in the underwater channel and can propagate at very long distances before being converted into seismic waves close to the coastal seismic stations.
